2nd Trimester

Im huge already!

I am only 14 weeks now, i ended up in the E.R. last week i just had the worst back pains ever and the doctor obviously didnt look at my chart. He came in and said well you look to be about 25 weeks along now and i told him i wasnt, he asked then if i was having twins which im not and he thought it was halarious and then he finally asked how far i was. Then i was only 13 weeks. Im a very little person maybe weighing about 115lbs with out being pregnant and now im 140 and i barley eat but im HUGE! WHY??! and not only that i have bad bad back pain and alot of lower stomach pain too.

Re: Im huge already!

  • What has your OB said about it?  25 lbs in your first trimester does seem like a lot.

  • i would talk to your OB about it.  i'm like you... very tiny... 5ft tall and was 118 lbs pre-pregnancy and i'm now 132 at 23 weeks and i eat all the time (i'm a snacker).

maybe it's just a big baby?  but i would ask your OB.. he can def help you out if you're upset about the weight.

  • Height definitely has something to do with it.  I'm short and short waisted so baby doesn't really have anywhere to go but out.  Meanwhile someone who is 6" taller will have that much more room for her uterus to fill before it must go outwards.

  • Definitely talk to your ob if you are having a lot of pain.

  • 25 lbs is what you should be looking to gain for the entire pregnancy.  Way too much for the first trimester!  Sorry!  I'm small too--5'2", started at 125, and feel huge at 130 lbs at 13+ wks, but I guess a lot is bloat too?

I would talk to your ob.  Also, start exercising and cut the carbs.

  • The back pain and lower stomach pain is probably from your skin stretching and the weight of it- a pregnancy support belt will REALLy help.

I had a friend that was tiny (5ft 115lbs) and gained over 75 lbs during her pregnancy - she had lots of swelling and her belly was just huge! (In case you are wondering, she lost all the weight pretty quickly after having the baby). If your doctor hasn't mentioned concern about your weight gain, then I wouldnt worry about it. If you are not really eating and still gaining then I would guess it's alot of bloat and water weight.

Some people show quicker than others- we all have different body types :)

You don't know her, or her situation. I wouldn't ever tell a pregnant woman....especially one i have never laid eyes on 'sorry, but that's too much weight.' Rude. And to tell anyone to start exercising and cut the carbs? Wow. To OP, I'm sorry the er doc treated you that way. ER docs usually don't deal a lot with pregnant woman and it was insensitive for him to treat you that way when you were looking for help/answers. Definitely talk to your ob about the pain and weight. If you are barely eating there may be something else causing the weight gain that he should know about. Hope the pain is resolvd as well.

  • I would talk to the doctor too.  You could be having a lot of swelling and water weight as a PP said.  And if you are not eating that much, then there may be another underlying reason, like gestational diabetes.  I would just want to make sure everything is ok with my doctor.  If so, then maybe you are just someone that gains quickly with pregnancy.  Many women do, and they are still able to lose it quickly after.
