Sleeping in a recliner?

Hi ladies!  So excited this board is here!  I had an emergency C/S in Feb 2011 and we're starting to plan for TTC #2.  Not really leaning towards VBAC right now so I'm assuming it will be another C/S.  I had an idea for the nursery and wanted your thoughts.  The most frustrating part of healing for me was getting up from bed.  I slept practically sitting up on pillows for days but it was not comfy at all.  I'm thinking of looking for a recliner to put in the nursery before the next one.  Do you think that would be comfortable?  Easy to get in and out of?  Anybody try one when they were recovering?

Re: Sleeping in a recliner?

  • I dont have one, but have heard other c section moms swear by them in the first week. so yes they should be easier to get in and out of and depending on the type of chair it would hopefully be comfy.

  • DH got me a wedge like this and it was good enough for me.  A recliner probably would have been great but I don't think I would have wanted it permanently.  I only would have needed it for a couple days.  I also had DS sleeping in the bassinet next to me and had all his diaper changing supplies on my night table so I never had to get out of bed during the night.

  • I slept in a recliner for the first two weeks. I tried to transition to my bed after a week but it hurt too much to get in and out so I went back to the recliner for another week.
  • It was a lot easier the 2nd time for me for some reason.  Maybe b/c I knew I had to do it a certain way?  I remember it being really hard the first time and not nearly as bad the 2nd time.

  • We had one in DS's room when he was born and it was an absolute life saver.  I attempted to lay in my own bed those first few nights but there was just no way it was going to work out.  Thinking back, not only did the recliner help me feel better but it allowed DS to sleep in his own crib since day #1.

  • Yes! Yes! Yes! This is probably my biggest recommendation. It's one of the main reasons that I left the hospital after 2 days. I only had to sleep in a couple of days, thank goodness, though. Because after awhile, it does start to hurt my back, but it does really help with that 'splitting in half' feeling that comes from trying to get out of bed...especially in the middle of the night when you are already exhausted. And by day 4 and definitely by day 5, I didn't have any more pain from the c-section (If I touched it, it was still sensitive, but other than that....back to normal.)
