I actually want to go swimming with LO before the weather really gets cold. I was thinking if a should purchase any kind of swim float stuff, or is there anything somebody could recommend to me. Has someone does something like this before?
I've never seen a baby float advised for use before 6 months. I've gone swimming with DD twice (and just held her), but keep in mind that you can't stay in the water for long. Even though the water was really warm when we went, she started shivering within 10-15 minutes. Babies don't have the ability to regulate their body temperature until 6 months or so.

I think we might take LO to the pool tomorrow. I did buy a cloth swim diaper and some silicon ear plugs to keep water out of his ears. DH had terrible ear infections as a kid, so I figured we'd try to avoid them if possible. Other than that, we'll just hold him. I think any floaty thing would create a false sense of safety.
We swim with DD quite often - typically we just hold her and let her splash in the water. She's never in the pool longer than 15-20 minutes, and it's our pool - we crank the heat high when we know we're taking her in to ward off the chills. Be sure to use sunscreen (Neutrogena Pure & Free), a hat, and bathe LO shortly after the pool to get the sunscreen and chlorine off. We do have a floation for DD - it's an innertube ring with seat and a shade above it...but we only use it on super hot/sunny days when the hat isn't enough. We still hold her by the arms while she's in it. It cost maybe $25...not really worth it for one 15 minute swim.
My mom has a pool and LO has been swimming w/ us most of the summer. We take a adult flat raft and lay her on it w/ a little umbrella protecting her from the sun or hold her...we never leave the side of the raft though we hold on to it. She also wears a hat and sunscreen
We have this for DS and he is 6 weeks old in this pic. We have to hold him but it makes me feel just a tiny bit better knowing I have a little help. I'm sure I'll get flamed for using it but I like it and I never let go of his body while he is in it. (That is Grandpa's hand in the pic and he was promptly scolded for letting go!)
I started "Mom and Me' Aquafit at the local Y this week. They do it in a warm pool and LO seemed to really like it. I just held him for the 40 minute class. I wouldn't feel secure with him in a floatie yet. Most local pools in our area have warmer kid pools in addition to the big main, colder one.
I got a floaty from walmart for $5. It's recommended for 6 months+ but M is 14lbs and she fits fine. I forgot it every time I took her to the pool, but it worked well in the tub! Lol. I wouldn't let her cruise around the pool alone I would hold the float the whole time. I think a float is safer than just holding her, what if she slips out of your hands?
we just held Caitlin and we were not in for long. she got a bath and changed right after. I think that there is nothing wrong with the floats as along as you are holding your little one. I too think it is like extra help just in case you slip, some pools floors have a dip in them that you do not know is there till you slip down.
Took LO to the pool and she had a fit! She didn't like the sun, and even with her big yellow hat she only let me put her feet in and only for a few minutes. Something to build up to gradually I suppose. Taking my niece and nephew to an indoor pool this upcoming weekend, so we'll try again.

I've been taking DS to "swimming lessons" since he was 6 weeks old. Our local swim school offers free classes from 0-6 months and they are surprisingly informative. DS LOVES the water and is learning to get comfortable in the pool. I hold him for the 30 minute class. Living in Phoenix, many homes have pools so we want to make sure DS learns to swim very early. We've been swimming multiple times at friend's houses, our parents' houses, etc. and we have used a little floating boat as well. Obviously we never leave his side and I even hold on to his arms while he is in it, but he loves it!

We go to FI's brothers just about every weekend and go swimming w/ DS. We've been swimming with him since he was 6 weeks old and he seems to love it. We don't use floaties of any sort, we hold him.
I've taken my LO in the pool a few times already. I haven't put her in any floaties tho. I wanted to get her one that has a cover from the sun on it but I didn't find any. I usually just hold her and let her lay on her back. She loves the pool. But I don't go out unless there is some shade. I'm too scared of her getting sunburned already.
