Success after IF

super early gender scans?

we're going on a cheap mexico getaway when I'll be (hopefully) 15 weeks, and would LOVE to know the sex(es) prior, so we can argue about names the whole time. (lol)

Early predictions are easier with boys, right? Like, will any u/s tech be able to tell with any certainly at 14 or so weeks what we're having?

we won't be naming the bab(ies) for sure prior to birth, but well, I'm super curious about what's in there, and all this talk about Team Green is making me nuts! ha!

  • We couldn't get anybody to give us any guesses...we had to wait until the AS at 18 weeks. But, I have heard of lots of ladies finding out well before then. I think it depends on the "angle of the dangle". Good luck!!

  • I will say that I went in at 15 weeks to L&D for a "scare" and had an ultrasound to check things out.  I was told that at 15 weeks they can't say for sure but they thought it was a boy. I figured they wouldn't guess boy unless they saw something.  A few ultrasounds later proved that she was definitely all girl!

  • huh, well, a "pretty good guess" is good enough for me! I had no idea they could be that sure that early - cool!   I have a good relationship with my OB's u/s tech, he'll give me his best bet, I hope!

  • For both of my pregnancies, we found out right at 14 weeks at an elective 3D place. They were 100% certain about their guesses.

  • We got a guess at our NT scan at 11w6d that turned out to be right. When we had the anatomy scan that confirmed it we mentioned how another tech had guessed, she knew who we were talking about and said she always guesses and is always right....

  • Found out at 14 weeks with Mark, haven't tried yet with this one.  I saw it myself at 14 weeks and felt confident on the crappy machine when I worked L&D with Mark.  Then the next day I went to the MFM office to have it confirmed and they agreed.

  • We found out at 14 weeks. It was at the MFM, with a better machine, but they said boy, and that's what we got!

  • Same story here... 15w and it was obvious he was a boy :). So excited for you!
  • At our first NT, they guessed boy and it was confirmed at 16 weeks and by amnio. This time, they said they couldn't tell. First said boy, then girl, then not sure. Now I'm leaning toward not wanting to know. Think by 16 weeks, a boy should be pretty easy to see.
  • We went to a 3d/4d place at 14 weeks and were told boy 100% and we have a son =)

  • When I went in for my NT scan at around 13ish weeks ( i think) they asked if I wanted to know the sex.  I said 'really, you can tell that early'.  The tech said 'sometimes'.  (of course, i didnt find out that day since DH wasnt with me) I have a friend who found out at 16 weeks and was having a boy.  i definitely think you can tell sooner with boys.  Its worth a shot, but maybe wait to pick a definite name until 20 weeks  :)

  • They guessed boy at my NT Scan at 12 weeks 4 days pregnant and I just had my A/S and they were correct - we are having a boy.  I think you should be able to tell with pretty much certainity at 15 weeks - oh BTW - Congrats!!!!

  • For us (obviously all girls), no one would even give a GUESS before 18 weeks, so maybe there is something to the idea that it is easier to make an early guess with boys...?

But, it is worth a try!  :):):)

  • Our U/S tech said B/G at 17 weeks, but dr wouldn't confirm it until 20.  Obviously, she ended up being right.  Good luck!
  • IF you're at a high risk clinic or one that has excellent u/s equipment then you'll know by then. No problem. I knew with both of my girls at 12wks at the NT scan. Actually I knew a little earlier with Ana (10wks?) because of an awful UTI that had me spilling blood.  lol!

  • We knew for all three by 15 weeks. At my NT scan they gave us guesses and they were all correct!

  • Are you doing a NT?

My OB's ultrasonographer uses 3-D and has a truck load of experience.

He said that 85% of the time she says something at the NT she's correct.

So - I wouldn't put money on anything you find out that early but it's not impossible to tell.

However I would only do it if you can locate someone with 3-D equipment who's got a TRUCK load of experience with 3-D at that early stage.

And FWIW you can't see the goods but rather lines and the angles they're at.

Ours guessed correct with Dylan at the NT.  Conversely waiting until our anatomy scan at 21 weeks with Jace felt like an eternity by comparison (different insurance and different OB).

Wanna swing thru Denver on your way outta town?  She's the best in the state.

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
  • While at our NT scan at 12w5d, they guessed 2 girls.  Well as MIL tactfully said "I guess Tuck was a late bloomer"

They were wrong, but she said not to go out and buy matching girl stuff just yet.

  • My brother and SIL had their NT Scan at 12 weeks, the tech told them she was 99% sure it was a girl and it really was! She must have had a great view!
  • My sis had a 3D at her first tri screening and they told her they are 95% sure it's a boy. Big u/s in about a week and a half, so we don't know forsure yet.

  • The place that did my NT scan did a blood test for gender, and they have pretty high accuracy (they're looking for evidence of the Y chromosome in the mother's blood). It's more accurate for boys than girls, although if you have twins it can only tell you if you're having one boy, not two :)

They wouldn't even take a guess at the gender from u/s, but the blood test got us gender before 14 weeks.

  • With my first, they guessed wrong at 11w3d. It's all about 'the angle of the dangle' (my mfm's words, not mine! Lol!) and she was on her head the entire time, so it was really hard to tell. With my second the sonographer and mfm guessed girl at 12w2d and they were both right!

  • I was in for an u/s at 16w and she absolutely would not even give me a guess.  She refused to look saying it was way too early.  I know that others have been told earlier so I'm sure she just didnt want to give me a guess instead of being certain.
