These look great! I didn't learn to swim until I was 13 (3 years after I almost drowned in a lake at summer camp), and I definitely want to start early with DD.

That must have been terrifying!!
I can't remember ever not knowing how to swim. My parents made sure I knew how after my mom's pediatrician scared the bejeezus out of her about the danger of babies and water. I'm scared about it too, so thanks for the link!
Our local YMCA offers parent/child swim classes starting at 6 months. I believe that all kids should know how to swim, we had 2 toddlers die this summer in pools and it scares me to even think about it.

It was pretty traumatizing. More so for my parents than for me though! They had to find out through a phone call home...
I was in swim lessons at age four or so, but the teacher let me blow bubbles instead of going underwater. So that didn't get me too far.

I am a terrible swimmer. I was scared when I was a kid and wasn't forced to ever learn. I can, of course, keep my head above water, but I can't count on myself to save anyone! DH is a fantastic swimmer and will be teaching DD. We have a pool and, while we'll take all safety precautions we can, I'll feel so much better if I know she can swim from the moment she starts walking.
