I'm expecting twins and plan to EBF and introduce bottles of breast milk after a couple months. Of course that's my plan and I know plans don't always happen as you'd like so I'd like to have bottles for back up just in case. I'm wondering if I can freeze breast milk in glass bottles (if I have enough of a supply for freezing) or is it best to use bpa free bags that go with the medela pump I'm planning to get? I'm very hesitant about using plastic to freeze and heat. What have you done? All of the feeding equipment is very overwhelming.
Thanks!
Re: freezing breast milk?
I wouldn't freeze in glass just because it takes up so much room. If you're concerned about plastics, Green Sprouts used to make a biodegradable bag; I'm not sure if they carry them any longer. Otherwise, I liked the Lanisoh bags. Don't get the bags that attach to your pump. Just pump into bottles then transfer to the bags; it will be much easier! The bags then freeze flat like an envelope and you can store them lined up in a container or stacked in a gift bag.
As for heating, you don't really heat breast milk. You would just take a frozen bag, submerge it in hot water until it is warm. It's super-quick. It's not like formula that needs to be a certain temp or needs certain preparation.
Have you checked out kellymom.com yet? I'm sure there is tons of info on bfing twins.
Good luck!
