NBR- Wedding Memories

I'm planning my wedding and have been on and off the knot, looking at gowns and rings and DIY projects. It made me think of you ladies from my home board.

For those that are married, what was your favorite memory? What was worth the money? Would you use the same song for the first dance? Smile Tell me all about it.

 Anyone here planning a wedding?

Re: NBR- Wedding Memories

  • We had a small intimate wedding in our own backyard and we only invited those closest to us.  It was an evening wedding and the whole backyard was lit with candles and twinkle lights.  My favorite memory is walking around visiting with all our dear family and friends under the sparkling lights.

We used Lullabye by the Dixie Chicks for our first song and still love it.

My advice is to keep it simple, have someone (friend or paid coordinator) take care of details the day of so you can enjoy yourself, and most importantly.....EAT something  :)  I had a friend following me around the reception to re-hand me my plate after I kept leaving it everywhere.  Designate someone to remind you to eat!  lol

  • For us, the photographer was the one and only thing we really splurged on. Your photos are the only thing you get to have after the wedding is all over - it's worth getting it done right.

We danced to Unforgettable by Nat King Cole (sans Natalie).  Love it!

I agree that it is important to remember to eat.  The best part of my day was right after pics, we all went to a beautiful oceanside restaurant downtown and had martinis before we had to head to the reception. It was so nice and relaxing.

THIS! Two years later people are still talking about how good the food was at our wedding and I can't remember eating much of anything that day. It goes by so fast and my memory is a blur of the day. Take it all in and don't rush through anything. I think we tried to fit in too much. Everyone had a great time, I just wished it could have lasted longer. Our first song was "Chasing Cars" by Snow Patrol and we still smile when we hear it on the radio. You are always going to see ideas you wish you could use, even after the wedding, but keep it simple and just spend time with your family and friends.

  • We are so glad we got a videographer.  They were not too pricey, for the company was just starting out, but Iove that we have all the raw footage and the highlight video. There was so much I missed out that I'm glad we got it.

I didn't go crazy expensive with little details (favors, table centerpieces, programs, etc.),which I am happy about.  We splurged on the great dj,open bar, family style dinner, and sweet table and our guests all had a good time and like the food.  As long as the food, music, and booze is great the guests with have fun (if the guests are like my friends and family).

  • The one thing I am really glad we did was agree to write a letter to one another before the ceremony.  Our MOH and Bestman handed them to us as we headed back down the aisle.  We spent time reading them together immediately after the ceremony.  Our fifth year anniversary is coming up this month and I still cherish my letter!

The $ spent on a planner/coordinator was well worth it and I'm glad we spent good money on our photographer.  I wouldn't have done anything differently.

  • It was worth every penny and every stressful moment. Not sure I have one favorite memory though ...maybe our first kiss or being announced as Officer and Mrs. I would definitely use the same song. We picked "Then" by Brad Paisley, which was very popular on the Knot at the time, but it was just perfect for us. The one thing I would have done differently was my hair. It was gorgeous, but so similar to a style I wore all of the time. I should have thought more out of the box. My advice to you is to listen to your gut. A lot of people will have ideas on what you should or shouldn't do, but what matters is what you and your fiance want (assuming that you're paying for it...if not, compromise, but don't let it become someone else's dream). Congratulations and good luck!

  • I really liked doing a lot of it myself, but it was stressful too. I wish I would have balanced the diy stuff more (I hand made all invites, programs, centerpieces, and did our flowers, and we had a large wedding, so it was a lot). We danced to sinatra's too marvelous for words-I think that's the title. I liked having a less common song. My favorite part was the first dance, we took lessons and didn't tell anyone, everyone was shocked.

  • I still like that we did a unity bowl of fire rather than just a candle or sand or whatever. It was dramatic... and cheap - a glass bread pan, some cotton balls, and some rubbing alcohol. And then some mini tiki torches to light it with.

Honestly, I wish I had put even less effort into it. We got married in university and I was planning during my worst year. In hindsight, not much actually matters.

  • I agree with pook about a planner. One came with the venue we booked (actually a ton came with the venue. Flowers, cake, food, decor, etc) and it was so nice not to have to worry about so much. I focused on my dress and small things. I told them what I wanted my flowers and cake to look like and then they did the work.

I like the pics we got but I wish I had splurged a bit more and gotten someone more experienced.

Our wedding was an outside afternoon wedding. It was over by 4 and so we didn't dance. I wish we had. Oh and make sure you eat some of the food and especially the cake. We didn't get any and DH is still bitter about it.
