What goes in your hospital bag?

What goes in the bag that you take to the hospital?  Do you need to take diapers or any of that?

Re: What goes in your hospital bag?

  • Take anything that YOU need for an overnight stay (or two...) but everything is provided for the baby except their going-home outfits. Hospital provides diapers, wipes, etc. Also if you plan on breastfeeding you should prepare to take things like a boppy, nipple cream, etc.

  • No diapers - hospital provides those so take advantage! I packed a bunch of clothes for myself but didn't wear a single thing I brought, I used their net underwear which was good after C sec recovery. Brought my EZ 2 Nurse pillow (came in handy!) and going home outfits for the girls. Everything else I needed was there

Besides the other obvious (camera, camcorder, laptop, etc)

  • Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, brush, make up, lotion, soap, shampoo, chapstick, etc)

I brought some really comfy maternity pants and a couple of shirts, coming home outfits, phone charger, camera, books (in case you have a long labor), baby books (to get the babies' foot prints in). I think that's about it. The hospital will provide you with everything that you will need for the baby while you are there.

  • When I had my daughter, I brought a zip-front hoodie to throw on quickly over my hospital gown when guests dropped by.  I also bought a cheap pair of black cotton pajama-type pants at Wal-Mart to wear with my hospital gown for a few reasons.  It was cold (January in Wisconsin) and I knew I'd probably have some "leakage" after delivery.  By just wearing a super cheap pair of black pants with my gown, visitors never noticed if I'd bled through a tiny bit and I wasn't going to feel bad throwing away the pants after my hospital stay if I needed to.

I just finished packing my bag for this time around and I made sure to include a hoodie and black pants.

  • In addition to what PPs have said, I brought a pair of crocs to easily slip on my feet to get around.  The nurses wouldn't let me walk around without some kind of shoes.  Looking back on it, I wish I'd brought flip flops because my feet were too swollen to even wear crocs by the second or third day.

These things are silly, but I loved having my own water bottle (the hospital ones leaked all over me) and a laptop.  I was in the hospital from Friday - Tuesday so it was nice to have some communication with the outside world.

  • Yoga pants, granny panties, nursing tanks, toiletries and any beauty products that you depend on on a daily basis.

computer, camera, video cam, cell and all chargers.  I liked having a pen and notebook to record thoughts & memories.  Also, a big thing is a power strip and a extension cord...hospitals generally have one plug above the bed  if you have the cord, you can plug it into a power strip and put all your gadgets on the rolling table that you push and pull from your bed or the night stand next to the bed and all is easily accessible.

Boppies and going home outfits....I just did some kissy, kissy brand sleep and plays. : )

This is what I had for both of my sections.

  • I didn't get to pack a bag (girls were Preemie), but my favorite items ppl brought me::

cell phone/and charger, toothbrush, sock/flip flops, comfy drawstring sweats, and a bottle of Tylenol.  I waited almost 2 hrs. one time to get some tylenol (from the nurses) for pain.  :(
