Babies: 6 - 9 Months

How do you chics do it?

I've only given A puffs a few times very cautiously each time. Tonight, he was doing pretty well with the chewing motion so I thought I was getting somewhere...then, he choked. I freaked, which made it even worse, and stuck my finger down his throat. I know, bad move.) He's fine, but I even break them in half and he still choked! Too young still? Not ready?

  • Choked or gagged?

  • I mean... scary either way, but gagging is like cat with hairball...

  • Misuse of word. Gagged...it eventually went down. Either way, it still sucked for both him and me.

  • Gagging and even a little bit of choking is totally normal. He's just learning to eat. He's also going to fall (often) when he is learning to walk. You've got to just roll with it momma, because the more you freak out, the more he will too.

  • Gagging is scary. DD gags on sweet potatoes. We haven't even tried pieces of food or puffs.

  • I would take the gag as a reassuring sign. They do that so they don't choke and the fact that he's gagging means everything is working the way it should. (not that it makes it any less scary)

  • DS was a major choker. He choked on everything. I went and learned CPR. It made me feel more confidant. I had to sweep his throat at least once a week because he was choking so bad. He grew out of it but it took forever.

I have been knee deep in two year old and 6 month old. 2 year old has made it his ultimate goal to be a royal pain in my ass and the 6 month old...well she's 6 months old, haha. It's crazy around here. A lot of the march moms are on FB.

Becca, I was thinking about you today! Sorry if that's creepy, but I was like, I haven't seen her around in a while.

From what I have heard (around here, so I'm no Dr. Google) babies have a more sensitive gag reflex so that they don't choke. I know it's super nerve wracking, but he will figure it out!

Loppy??? I didn't realize you changed your SN, too! Recent or am I just out of it? Confused

  • Gagging sounds = good, no sounds with a scared face = bad.  Also, finger sweep = bad habit...if you didn't know that already.
