2nd Trimester

Pulled Muscle???

Has anyone had a pulled muscle in their lower abdomen while being pregnant?  We are in the process of moving so there are boxes all over the house.  Today I was lightly pushing one out of the way with my foot so i wouldn't trip and I felt a slight pop in my lower abdomen.  It didn't hurt real bad right away, but after about half an hour it started getting pretty sore.  It's pretty much ok when I am just sitting down, but when I get up for more then 5 minutes and start walking around it starts to get very sore.   It's not really a cramping feeling, it's more of a stretching feeling.  I am putting a call into my Dr. to see what he thinks, but does anyone have any thoughts??

Re: Pulled Muscle???

  • I haven't had exactly this, but I have over done it. I tried to do too much and let myself get dehydrated and the achy pains were super scary! I was told to rest with my feet up and get hydrated. (I'm having twins so I tired out easily, but I pushed myself to continue with the activity Sad ) I would suggest resting and hydrating.  I wouldn't do much until after I heard back from the Dr. . I hope you feel better soon!

  • I had to go to the doctor's office yesterday for what turned out to be a muscle strain in my lower abdomen.  My daughter, who is two years old, broke her leg and is in a cast, so I've been lifting and bending quite a bit the last week and a half or so.   I started noticing a dull ache when I lifted her up in my lower abdomen.  The doctor wanted me to come in to make sure it wasn't a UTI, which it isn't.  I was told just to take it easy, and avoid lifting her as much as possible.

  • My friend got a muscle strain in her lower abdomen from playing volleyball (she was around 6 months when it happen).  She obviously hasn't been playing since, but it was still bothering her several weeks after the injury occurred. She's been doing fine ever since.

I'm by no means a pregnancy expert, but when I worked in a physical therapy office we recommended 15 minutes of ice every few hours for the first two days; then rest--no lifting, or using those muscles if possible.  Not sure if ice is a good option, especially if its close to your little one.  Hope it helps.  Glad to hear you're going to your doctor on Monday.

Can you re-post after hearing from your doctor? It seems like something that could happen to anyone and would be good to know.

  • I had one with my DD and it was extremely painful. The dr wasn't concerned and just advised me to rest up. It should heal itself in a few days. GL!

  • Thanks for the replies everyone.  I spoke to my Dr. last night and he said that as long as i'm not having the pains I have while walking around it's a muscle strain or pull and it's not the babies. (i'm 24 weeks pregnant with twin girls.)  He didn't seem concerned about it at all.  He told me to take some tylenol and put ice on my abdomen and to just rest over the next few days.  I see him on Friday for my regular visit so hopefully it's better by then.  I put ice on my abdomen last night for about 20 minutes then 20 off and then another 20 on and took tome tylenol like my Dr. suggested and it seemed to help.  It's not completely better, but it is somewhat better.  Of course this has to happen the weekend before we move.  I always have the best timing.
