Jersey Girl moving to Carlsbad area...suggestions?

Hi there,

I'm a Jersey Girl that is moving to Carlsbad/San Elijo Hills area in December to finally be with my new husband :).  We are due February 5th with our first!

I was looking for some recommendations on both OBGYNs and Hospitals near me.  Also would be open to suggestions on any classes, stores, schools, courses, basically ANYTHING to help me become more familiar/comfortable with my "NEW HOME"

Any input...suggestions...recommendations are greatly appreciated.

Looking forward to becoming a SoCal Mommy!

  • I live in Vista and delivered at Tri City Medical Center in May. There is a really cute baby boutique close by called Babies in Bloom that I love! They have classes and are very helpful with breastfeeding and cloth diapering.

  • No offense to PP but I've heard A LOT of negative things about Tri-City (which is in the neighboring city Oceanside).  We went through Scripps and they have a Scripps in Encinitas which is neighboring Carlsbad to the South.  The Scripps in Encinitas was just remodeled so I'm sure it's very nice, the only downside there is that you could potentially have to share your room after you have the baby. In terms of classes and such I'm not much help, we did classes through Scripps and dropped out because we didn't like them and we already knew everything they were talking about from the books we read :/.  I know if you go to Meetup.com you can find some great Mommy groups too.

  • Thank you girls for all of your suggestions!  I will look into each :)
  • I agree with the PP about Tri-City...I couldn't get out of that practice fast enough!!  I delivered at Scripps Encinitas and loved it.  So far  I have loved everyone there - my midwife, ob-gyn, L&D nurses and pediatrician.

Also, Babies in Bloom in Vista rocks my socks!!  =)

    GL!

  • I had a great experience delivering at UCSD in the Birth Center.  If you are considering going natural, it's a great place.  They also have a regular Labor and Delivery.  There are FREE volunteer doulas and I really appreciated having one since doulas are a bit expensive...You can check out the UCSD website and attend one of their "meet and greet" events.

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!

  • Scripps Encinitas and Dr. Christine Brody. Facilities are by far the nicest in north county and she is such a great doctor- easy to talk to and staff is really friendly and eager to help.
