I am participating in a neighborhood yard sale tomorrow. I dont go yard saleing ever so I am not really sure how to price things.
What would you typically pay for the following:
- baby clothes (like onsies and up to size 6months)
- adult clothes (sweaters, shirts--mostly all name labels (gap, ann taylor loft, etc)
- pots and pans
- jewelry
- books
So not sure on how to price things... TIA! I am in CT FWIW.
Re: NSAIFR: Does anyone go "yard saleing"?
Around here - a buck for a child's clothinhg item, maybe 2 for adult clothes. Pots and pans, assuming they are used maybe 2 bucks, books, 25 cents paperback, 50 cents for hardback.
Jewelry I don't know.
You know I'm a bargain shopper. I say it really matters if you want to get rid of them or not. Whenever we've had garage sales the rule is whatever doesn't sell, doesn't come back into the house. It goes straight to Goodwill. If I'm willing to part with it, then it's gone sold or not!
So I price stuff to sell. Baby clothes I did 25 cents for onesies, other clothes 50 cents. I always figured baby clothes we're going to a good cause, another baby, so I never wanted to price those too high. Adult clothes I did a general price again like $1 for shirts, $2 for pants, $2 sweaters, etc. And just hang up a sign above them. Don't hand price everything...it'll drive you crazy! Books I'd say 50 cents (that's what they are at Goodwill). Other stuff it depends on the condition.
In general someone will ask if you'll take lower if they want it, but think you are pricing it too high. Then you decide if that's worth it or not. Have fun!
