Hi All! I don't post very much but would love your opinion. I am
due in Nov with our 2nd child (gender unknown). I currently have a DS
who will be 2 at the end of Dec.
I started thinking about what
we will do for our 2nd child's convertible car seat. We currently have
an infant car seat and a Britax Marathon. My DS1 is currently rear facing, but as soon as the infant seat goes in, he'll need to move behind the drivers seat and be forward facing (won't fit rear facing).
Our newborn will be in our infant seat until probably around 7-8 months at which point LO2 will need to be moved to a convertible (DS will be about 2 1/2). My thought was to leave our DS1 in the Marathon until our LO2 is ready for for the convertible and then buy DS1 who will be about 2 1/2 years the Britax Frontier instead of buying another Marathon.
So to my questions:
Is DS1 too little at 2 1/2 to not be in the marathon? At that point he would fit the requirements to be in a Frontier. Anyone have a Frontier? Likes/Dislikes? Other options?
I'd like to start watching for sales and coupons as both my DH and I each have a carseat in our vehicles.
Re: Car Seat Opinions Needed Please!
I can't answer your question about the Frontier as we do not have one of those. DD who is 2 1/2 is forward facing in a Britax Roundabout and fits just fine. We will keep her in there as long as she fits. We have the Graco Nautilus for our other car that she fits in just fine. We are expecting #2 in December and we feel when DC2 grows out of the carrier, we will move DC1 to the Nautilus and DC2 to the Britax and then be covered for a while.
If you are looking for sales, Target is having their baby sale right now, both online and in the store. They have some pretty good deals on car seats if you want to check them out!
he should be fine in the frontier, as long as he's big enough to fit. a 5 point harness is a 5 point harness and there isn't a difference in safety between a FFing convertible and a FFing only harness.
I'd get the frontier.
I agree with the PP!! OTOH, one thought is to hold off with purchasing the 2nd convertible until it's time to officially make the switch that way you will be able to use it for LO when they're old enough to have more of a "big kid seat" but not quite a 3-point without having to worry about the lifespan of the seat.
Good luck! Soon enough both will be in boosters and you'll have some space in your car back!
