Hello ladies, I hope you don't mind me asking a question here. I'm an infertile looking for some help. I had my first abnormal pap a month ago and my doctor did the colpscopy (I don't know that I spelled it right). Anyways, I went in today and he told me it came back as mild dysplasia (so far no HPV detected but they are testing again) He gave me two options, watch and wait or do the cryotherapy (freeze them off) and be done with it. He knows of our struggles obviously and said that the cryotherapy will not affect my fertility. However it could cause problems with my cervix during delivery if I ever get pregnant. Just wondering if any of you have had a similiar situation and what you did?
I really appreciate your answers. I will be calling my RE tomorrow morning to discuss with them but I'm looking for some answers now. Thanks!!!
Re: Not pregnant but cryotherapy?
For me personally, I would never sacrifice my own health (wait and see on the dysplasia) because it could potentially affect a hypothetical future delivery.
I had a cervical biopsy in college and obviously have no way of knowing if it had any impact on my fertility or our current cervical problems. But if I had early cervical cancer (mine was benign) and waited, I don't think my current issues would be what I would be focused on now, as I'd likely have even more pressing problems. GL to you.

I had cryotherapy after an abnormal pap that tested positive for HPV about 8 years ago, long before I started trying to get pregnant (and discovered that I had any fertility problems). My doctor at the time didn't even present it as a choice, honestly, she just said it had to be done. She did say that if I had to have the cryotherapy done repeatedly it could potentially affect childbirth down the line, but thankfully I only had to have it done once (so far! knock on wood). Anyway I would not risk it, honestly - abnormal cells need to be eliminated and cryotherapy is safe.
I do have a girlfriend whose doctor took the wait-and-see approach when her abnormal pap tested negative for HPV. She went back for a pap 6 months after that to keep an eye on it and it had gone away. So I guess either approach can potentially work.
Thanks for the feedback ladies. We decided to go ahead with the cryotherapy this cycle. My OB/Gyn seems to think I will be able to be "back in the game" by my next cycle and my RE is ok with that as well.
One less thing to worry about!
Congrats on your pregnancies btw!
