Upstate NY Babies

Sciatic.

I didn't have this pain with L.  It's awful!  On sunday all I did was sweep the kitchen floor and I could barely stand up on my own by the time I was done.  I sit all day at work.  Lastnight I got home, made a quick dinner and gave L a bath.  By the time I was done I could barely walk.  I don't know what to do to relieve it.  Are there special stretches I can do?  It's mostly in my buttocks region.  It doesn't go down my leg at all.

Re: Sciatic.

  • I had the same thing, it hurt so badly!  Stretching did help me a little bit, although towards the end it felt like it was tough to stretch with such a huge belly.

  • I had terrible sciatic pain, I feel for you! Sometimes sitting all day is the worst thing... try and get up from your desk and stretch or walk around every hour or so.

My doc gave me a printout of a bunch of stretches to do and they helped a ton. (maybe you could ask your doc or google sciatic stretches?) DH would help me stretch every night and it always helped me sleep. If I skipped one night I would have awful pain the next day.

Right around 30 weeks Evan must have shifted, because the pain stopped... but at that point a whole new set of aches and pains start! ;)

  • Stretching, yoga, and the chiropractor were very important for me.  I'm so sorry!  It totally sucks!
  • Oh geez M!  Hope it feels better.  There are some pictures and videos online and try to get to a yoga class..it really helped me.  Tomorrow morning at CNY Yoga Center in Liverpool....great class and you just show up and pay the instructor per class.

  • I had the same pain with both pregnancies, it sucks.  I did stretches and wore one of those stylish maternity support belts, and those helped.  But ultimately the same thing happened both times- the baby shifted and it suddenly went away.  I think I had pain for about 4-6 weeks each time.
  • I'm a big proponent of chiropractic as well.

  • Oh Mer - I feel your pain - I had the same thing while pregnant with O. I love Edies Yoga class at CNY Yoga in Lpool on Saturdays, and also, I highly recommend seeing a chiropractor... after a few visits my sciatica pain was noticeably better!
  • I'm there with you...i get the same pain- I could die...

the childs pose has been helpful (on your knees stretching forward with your arms next to your ears) so has been sitting on a yoga ball
