I shrunk!

This might sound really dumb,  but I am shorter now than I was prior to getting pregnant.  Is it possible that pregnancy could cause you to shrink in height?

Previously I was 5'6"  which is the same height as DH.  Last week I was standing next to him in the mirror and I noticed I was about an inch shorter than him. I thought it was odd. I was standing up as straight as possible.   Anyways, today I had my sister measure my height... sure enough I am just under 5'5".  What the heck??

I've read that hormones cause your joints to loosen up during pregnancy,  could that cause someone to shrink?  Maybe my posture has gotten worse from holding the baby all day ? My feet are wider than before, maybe that has something to do with it.   I don't know.

Has anyone else noticed they are shorter?

Re: I shrunk!

  • No, pregnancy/postpartum hormones cannot cause you to shrink.  It's not possible that pregnancy can cause you to shrink in height.  Some people begin to notice a gradual decrease in height in their 30s or 40s due to aging, but it isn't triggered by pregnancy.

  • Maybe the pregnancy + crouching over to feed/change the baby has messed with your posture. Stretching/yoga might help.
