Set up big girl with quiet activity, go nurse baby girl in bed until she sleeps. If I can't get her down we go for a walk with K in the sling, and she's out in 2 minutes.
No ritual per se, but for naps LO won't sleep unless I rock him or walk with him and sing to him. He gets sleepy after 2 hours, 3 tops, of waking up from last nap, so before he gets cranky I just pick him up and start rocking him/singing and he's asleep withing 5 minutes. Sometimes he'll let me know it's time for a nap, but I still do my usual to put him to sleep.
When DD has been awake close to 2 hours, I start looking for sleepy signs. As soon as I see a yawn or eye rubbing, I give her a paci and rock or walk her while singing to her. If I catch her on the early side, she goes to sleep pretty quickly and easily. If I wait too long, she fusses, cries and sometimes screams and it takes up to an hour for her to calm down and sleep.
