I'm so annoyed. My office provides an unused office to pump. It's a very nice office. I've been quite happy in there. Well I walked in for the first pump session and it was 60 degrees. I put on my sweater, turned up the heat and pumped. I left the door open (unlocked) when I was done so it could warm up and this afternoon one of the EVP's decided the door needed to be closed and locked because it's an open office ( ). The building manager with all the keys had left for the day and no one could let me in the office which has a sign that says it's to remain UNLOCKED. I was forced to pump in the bathroom. I just hate the idea of pumping in there because it doesn't seem completely sanitary. I have a right by law to pump in a private room that isn't a bathroom.
I emailed my boss who is also a VP and asked her to speak with the other VP. I want her to let the lady know why that office is supposed to remain unlocked. I think the thing that irritates me the most is that there is NOTHING in that office that would make it necessary to remain locked. No files, no client sensitive information at all.
Re: I had to pump in the bathroom today.
I take my nook and I read. Although I couldn't balance the pumping and the nook and everything in the bathroom today so I just sat there with women coming in and out listening to everything. It's a pretty big office and I doubt everyone knows I pump. It must have been weird going in and hearing "whoosh whoosh whoosh"

Dumb.
I think you were smart to email your VP.
And if there is no client-sensitive material, computers etc, I'd ask for a key in the event it happens again.
agreed. The sign obviously didn't help.

This is one of the reasons I quit my job last week. I had been debating back and forth over going back or not and the pros finally outweighed the cons.
I worked as a cashier at Wal-Mart and there is nowhere private that I could have pumped. I would have been forced into the bathroom or the break room which is always full of other employees.
I had to fight tooth and nail over my rights during my pregnancy and I really don't think I would have it in me to fight again. It would be so hard going around as "the breast feeding mom" at work just like I was "the pregnant girl with the doctor's notes."
