Any tips or tricks you ladies have for burping the wiggliest baby ever?
For whatever reason (maybe the 6 wk growth spurt), A has become almost impossible to burp. I've tried a few different positions and I can't find one that's not extremely difficult/works well.
I put him over my shoulder and try. He can hold his head up for a good amount of time so he does that plus the bobblehead. THEN, he'll throw himself backwards - and the kid has a big heavy head (not to mention the headbutts that almost split my lip) - so that makes it harder to hold him and burp him. To top it off, he's really long, and his feet pretty much touch my legs when I'm sitting down, so he's begun to push off (and sometimes on my incision) so I've got him going all sorts of ways.
We also try sitting him up and leaning him a little forward to burp, but that seems to produce more spit up because we're squishing him tummy, perhaps? He also throws himself backwards and sideways in that position. And the football hold is too difficult for me because the chunkster is 12lbs (and wiggly), so I can never get a good hold/am afraid I'll drop him.
Any positions that work for you? Any tips? He is a super gassy baby so we have to burp him a lot...
Re: burping help!
one of the positions the dr told me to try was laying him across my lap to burp him - not sure if that would produce more spit up or not - but I remember him pushing his little feet on my incision and having to reposition him alot too when he was over my shoulder.
I would also try him sitting up but not necessarily leaning forward.
haha it is kind of cute to imagine him doing gymnastics while you are trying to burp him!
if you can prevent him from throwing his head/back backwards then what worked really well for me was holding her upright and on my chest while I am standing, then rock back and forth to the left and to the right (kind of like a metronome) while patting the back and that usually works really quickly!
