With my first c-section I got staples and this time around I didn't. I feel like my scar looks better this time around even though I still have some more healing to do. I wonder if doing staples is the "easy" way for Doctors to do things. Thoughts?
The internal incision was stitched, I think that's standard. But for the external incision, my doc used dissolvable staples. He said it's fairly recent for docs to have this choice and it's something more commonly used by plastic surgeons.
I didn't have any issues with healing and my scar is small and fading nicely. I think it was a good choice.
I had dissolvable staples. One of them started poking out so my OB pulled it out with tweezers at my post partum appointment. Ouch. My scar is not bad. It was raised for a long time, but now it is flat and white.
I was told by my MIL who is an OB nurse that a lot of doctors prefer to use staples because they are a lot faster and easier. She said (at our hospital) that it is rare for Doctors to sew because it takes so long, however I was super lucky I think and my Doctor was one of those rare ones who did. My scar is about as pretty as a c-section scar can be! It took about 15 minutes longer but I think laying there for the extra time was well worth it.

I had internal stitches, and staples externally. I got the staples out a week later and my OB put on steri-strips.
Her reasoning was that staples make a better looking scar. I don't know if that's true for everyone, but she said HER staples look better than HER stitches. She leaves them in for a week because in her experience women tend to take it easy more if they have staples still in.
I had the glue with my first c-section, and it looked HORRIBLE! It was bumpy and lumpy. I tried every scar creme out there to help smooth it out and nothing helped. With my 2nd c-section, I got staples and I can't even see my scar. I didn't use any scar cremes on it or anything. I plan on getting staples again.
I got staples and it was from the OB who happened to be on call since I didn't get my own MW or OB. My body didn't like them at all and it got all swollen and oozy around most of the staple holes. I had 3 trips back to the MW before I even had to go back from my 6 week check up because of them. My MW said if I had gotton my own OB, it would have been stitches and that each OB at the hospital just used whatever method they prefer, so it's the luck of the draw.

Staples here. At first I looked like Frankenstein. My scar looks awesome. None of my friends have had staples and my scar is a lot cleaner looking and I had mine most recently. I think it depends more on the skill of the doctor...

I had a CS almost three years ago and the Dr. used staples. My scar is actually very minimal and you can hardly see it.
However, I do remember seeing the staples in my incision afterwards and nearly passing out because I felt like Frankenstein. haha

I think most of the healing depends on the individual and the surgeon, not the method to close the incision. I was given the option of staples of sutures (stitches). I went with staples because that's what I am used dealing with as a nurse myself. My incision has healed beautifully and looks just like a small pink line right now.
No clue what is easier for doctors or how they choose which method to use, buy my scar healed quickly, and every nurse and doctor who looked at it while I was at the hospital oohed and ahhed over how great it looked.
ETA: Duh, I never said what method my doctor used. I had staples.
I had staples with my first c-section and with my second I had dissolving stitches. I feel that they do the staples because it's quick for them. I felt that my recovery was better with the dissolving stitches.

I had dermabond with my first c-section. My 2nd and 3rd csections were done by my regular OB. (He missed the birth of my first child.) He used staples for #2 and #3. I had asked him to use the dermabond again during the delivery of #2 and he started to staple and then told me what he had done. At that point I didn't care. Turns out my incision looked great and healed nicely all three times.
I had staples and they were taken out before I was discharged. The nurses kept telling me it looked more like a tummy tuck than a c-section scar. It healed up nicely and half of it has faded away. Granted, it depends largely on your dr's skills and your body's ability to heal.

My OB said she uses stitches unless you're obese or very overweight, in which case staples are stronger to hold the heavier skin. I had stitches inside and glue & tape outside. I don't think staples are "the easy way" because they make infection more of a risk, plus they need to remove them- but if you feel your doctor was taking easy shortcuts, you really should find a new doctor.

I had dissolvable stitches and all of the nurses kept commenting on it after the fact (apparently the OB who did my section rarely does stitches). My scar looks great, and I'm going to request stitches again. Staples freak me out.

I'm happy with how my scar looks- it's tiny.

this. and i think the scar looks great!
This.
I had my appendix removed 7 years ago and had staples, my recovery from that was much more difficult then the recovery from my c-section.

Same for me!
This is exactly what I had.
This is what I had and I am very happy with the way my incision healed. I plan to request the same, if possible, with this RCS.
