thank goodness i have the bump

So this blog that I follow...her LO is a couple months younger than ours. Anyway, I try not to hate on other mothers, because we're all different.  But she posted on her twitter when he was six weeks old that she was letting him CIO for naptime....30 minutes....six weeks old. He was probably going through his growth spurt!

Now she is letting him CIO at night too.  It makes me sad.

I wouldn't have really known about growth spurts if I hadn't been part of this board.

Re: thank goodness i have the bump

  • I didn't know about growth spurts with my first until I read something when she was 6 months old.  When I looked back at the difficult, marathon nursing days at 3 weeks and 3 months it all made sense.

I didn't know about the 4 month wakeful until I was on here, and it's really helping me be more understanding with my tired, yet very wakeful baby.

  • I don't know how I would have survived pregnancy and the newborn stage without all the wonderful knowledge I got from this board. Each day I learn something new and it helps me feel like I am more in tune with my baby :) I feel like I'm ahead of the curve since many times my friends with older kids will mention something to me and I already know about it.

    Exactly!!!

Plus, for growth spurts, I would have just thought I had a super fussy baby rather than a hungry, tired, awake, learning, growing baby.

I just feel really bad for this woman's LO.  He's so little! She tweeted how she was telling her DH to be patient while the baby cried in his bed for 45 minutes. :(

Wow....how could she be patient with LO while they cried that long?   Geeze.

I know.  She said her DH said "I hate having to follow all of your books [methods used that she read about]" and she told him to just be strong.  she was so proud of herself for letting LO CIO.  I really wanted to tell her that mommas are proud of themselves for making it through CIO when they have a four or six month old, but I didn't want to start any drama.

I would have. I would have cited articles and stuff and I would have totally gone off. That's awful. I have a hard time letting E fuss for 5 minutes while we are trying to start the sleep training. I can only let it go for a few minutes. How can she as a mother let her baby scream and get red faced and I'm sure have tears streaming down his face? I couldn't do it.

  • that's so sad!  A few weeks ago a guy I went to high school posted that he was 'listening to his daughter cry herself to sleep' when she was 3 weeks old.  It almost brought tears to my eyes...i felt so bad for her! :(

Me too. I want to cry thinking about it...A is 4 months old now and I still can't stand for him to cry. Even a whimper has me full sprint up the stairs to get him.

Agreed.  I don't usually offer advice or my opinion when it isn't requested, but I don't think I'd be able to ignore that.  Babies that young cry because they have needs, and to ignore those needs constitutes neglect.  Ugh.

  • Well, I didn't bother because she really controls the comments that are posted to her blog.  She doesn't allow anonymous comments since that post, so I'm assuming she heard some things she didn't want to hear from it.  I didn't say anything because it was already done. I didn't say anything via twitter b/c I just didn't want to start a war, ya know?  She's definitely one of those people who wouldn't think she's doing anything wrong, though.

Even now, all I want to do is cuddle Georgia when she's fussy, let alone crying!  Her cry breaks my heart and makes me want to cry, too.

  • That makes me super sad. That woman is starving her baby of both food and attention. At such a young age, babies don't yet know how to manipulate, they just cry when they really, honestly, need something.
