Toddlers: 24 Months+

Weird question for pregnant mums with toddlers..

Do you find when you're out and about with your LO..people seem to have a different attitude towards you as opposed to when you were pregnant with your first? Maybe it's just my pregger hormones but I get the impression people give me the side eye more often..and I get mostly comments like "oh you're going to be so busy in a few months aren't you?".   And I find people aren't as courteous about giving up seats on transit or trying to help out etc this time... weird.

Again maybe just my altered hormonal impression, I dunno, but I've noticed it a lot this week!

  • I felt like I did later on in the pregnancy when my wedding ring wouldn't fit---and so I have a toddler and one in the oven--and appear not to be married.  LOL.

  • IDK, people here were not particularly nice to me with my first pregnancy, either.  I ride the bus to work each day and it amazed me how rarely someone would offer me a seat if I had to stand.  People would pretend not to see me, which was hard to do at that point!  It really took some effort on their part.  Guess I'm just in a rude city.

  • Yes, I do. I feel like people look at me more like who is this crazy lady and keep her away because she must be contagious, haha! I'm pregnant with my third, have a 12 month old and a 27 month old. I definitely get the side eye!! When I was pregnant with the first I feel like I got a lot more of those smiles and looks that said, 'awww how cute, a pregnant lady.'

  • I know that it was just my hormones, but this last week I was at the mall with DS and he was being a complete handful. He would not listen and ran out of the first store I tried to go into twice. The second time the lady working there gave me this horrible "and you're about to do this again" kind of look. I don't get bothered by the "you're about to be busy" comments, because I am. But weird looks get my mind racing as to what exactly they are thinking.

  • No, I totally get it.  When I walk the boys to Starbucks, no one holds the door for me but everyone in the store will turn around to watch me maneuver two little boys, my belly and my empty stroller through the door all by myself!

Took the kids on a train ride the other day, all the seats at the station were full, it was probvably about 90? and I was starting to get really light headed.  I was crouched down on the ground so I didn't collapse (my mom was with the kids).  Not a single person offered me their seat in the shade and I was only like 10 feet away from them.  Including the people hanging out on the bench reserved for eldery and people with disabilities.

  • Well I'm not the only one that noticed then. Maybe people are just getting more and more crappy as time goes on heh... Some days folks are polite to me and offer help etc (not that I expect it but I do feel kind of peeved if I am obviously struggling with something and no one even offers a hand).  A couple weeks ago actually I remember a good example.. I was at one of the train stations where the elevator was really shoddy and DS is quite afraid of it. So I was pulling him backwards in his stroller up the short flight of stairs (8 or 10 maybe?). No biggie I could handle it..but this guy was walking up beside me and he looks, gives a snotty smart-arse smile and says "You know, there IS an elevator RIGHT there...". I just said "Yeah it's always broken". At the time I didn't think of it but i was like hey, wait a minute..instead of making a jackass comment why didn't you offer to help me with the stroller?

  • On one hand, I dont think we should expect people to treat us differently for having kids or being pregnant, because it was our choice.... but then on the other hand, I think people should just be courteous since I try to pay it forward by helping other people....

That said, I don't get mad when people don't help me, but I do get mad when they take the time to make smart ass comments or look at me strange. I "can't wait" till I'm showing this time. Walking around with a double stroller and a preggo belly, lol.
