Hi there! I have a question about Elecare Jr. I took my DS to the GI dr today and he suspects he has Celiac and a milk allergy. We already know he is allergic to soy, so we are starting a month of an allergen free diet. He told us to give him Elecare Jr Vanilla to drink instead of milk. Well, DS will NOT drink it! He would rather scream and be hungry than drink it. I am calling the dr in the am but was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. If so, what did you sub for the Elecare? I know I cannot do soy, goats, almond, or coconut milk.
TIA!!!
Re: Elecare Jr substitutes...
my son wouldn't drink it either when he was about 14 or 15 months old (my allergist gave it to me as a tester and there was no way he was drinking it) -so he just went onto rice milk and has been on it ever since.
Is your LO thriving?
since he's over 1, can he just go on Rice milk?
I'd try rice milk too. Or maybe hemp milk? You can buy a fortified kind with calcium/vitamins added. Maybe you could sneak in a scoop of the ellecare in the rice milk?
ETA: why can't you do coconut? has he been tested for a coconut allergy? We are peanut allergic and avoiding all nuts but got the go-ahead for coconut milk.
Thanks for the input ladies!
Our GI doesn't want us to use rice milk bc Ds gets most of his nutrients from milk. He has sensory issues and does not eat much actual food. Since his GI issues have gotten worse I can only get him to eat about 6 ounces of food a day, so we are relying heavily on liquid nutrition:(
As far as hemp and coconut milk our GI says no for a minimum of 30 days, since we are trying to eliminate allergies. We do know he allergic to soy, and most likely dairy and gluten. The others we are not sure about so we are trying elimination...
The GI now wants me to try mixing the Elecare with smoothies and stuff... My DS has an EXTREMELY sensitive palate (much like me), so I am very concerned he will detect the smallest amount of Elecare. Have any of you tried hiding the flavor? If so, what worked best?
