DH and I aren't sports fans in the least little tiny bit.
EVERYONE I work with is sports obsessed. Two engineers have been discussing their fantasy football picks and prospects for the season for the last hour and 1/2. This crap really makes me queasy.
Re: Already sick of football.
It only proves to me that DH and I are soul mates. Neither of us care. They make millions of dollars a year to throw a ball. It's just lost on me. Neither of our dads are into sports either.
Before I got married, I wanted nothing to do with football. However, I married into a Green Bay Packers family. Game day is when the extended family gets together and spends quality time together. I decided to just go with it since I did not want to be a football widow.
Turns out, it's pretty fun
Hanging out and cheering for a team is fun family bonding. We go three times a year up to Green Bay (from Ohio) to the games and we have a blast. The way I figure it, the game is only 3 hours of a 4 day trip
The fantasy thing I do not get. It is really annoying and a huge waste of time to me.
Now actual football-watching - I agree with PP that it's a great excuse to socialize. I never cared about the NFL (grew up in New England loving fall Saturday afternoon high school football) but my Chicago-born DH showed me how much fun it can be to follow a team (the Bears!) and have a reason to invite people over for queso and beer.
Here's my take on football....
I think over the entire football season I'll watch a total of one game. I'm 31 years old and I still don't know what all the rules mean and what a 1st down is etc. or why they kick the ball instead of going in for a touchdown. If I ask then it means I get a 30 minute run-down and my eyes start to glaze over.
I have no idea what Fantasy Football is all about, how it's started, who runs it blah blah blah. My entire family is into it and likes to post info. on FB. I don't even bother asking.
We went to a Raiders/Broncos game and the most excitement I got out of it was watching the fans fight each other in the stands and parking lot.
Superbowl usually equals me drinking with my girlfriends while the guys argue over the pot of money for bets. Now that I'm pregnant I guess it's going to be watching the commercials and halftime show.
honestly i felt the same way. my husband and i have been together for 8yrs total and finally i decided last year i was going to like football. so i picked a team that was going to be 'mine' and we bet on which teams will win each wknd and the winner gets a 30min massage.but i will admit half the time i'm not 'watching'.
now if i could just get into hockey...eh
I'm totally in the same boat. I think my hatred for football is increased because what it does to the weekends with my DH! Anything that takes 4 hours to watch smack dab in the middle of the day is bound to disturb any normal plans from occuring!
I love football! We just got directv and I told DH that we were getting the NFL Sunday Ticket. He was like "really? Well, you're pregnant, so that's fine, I guess." Lol. He is definitely not into sports at all. He plays them, but he can't sit down and watch a game for the life of him. He did say that he wanted to try get into football this year. So, maybe he'll learn something.
Last year, DH called me during one of the playoff games and was like "what's the score?" When I told him, he was like "ah, cool ... what inning?"
I used to hate football and how much it consumed DH's time... But I'm on a fantasy football league now and I'm actually interested in watching the games!
I'm too competitive not to!
