Where did you go? Did the masseuse need some kind of special certification?
My OB said a prenatal massage might help ease the nerve pain and tingling I've been having in my upper thigh.
I don't know much about massages because the few I've gotten hurt! I think I am just sensitive... or maybe it's just that my only massage exposure is when I get my nails done... HA
There is a massage envy place by my house I am going to see if this is on their list of service.
Any other suggestions?
Re: If you got a prenatal massage...
You definitely want someone with prenatal certification and a place that specifically advertises prenatal massage. At every place I went, there were only 1-2 people who could do it, so scheduling wasn't quite as easy - but I was glad they were extra cautious with me.
Prenatal massage also tends to be more gentle than, say, a standard swedish massage. It is one of my pet peeves, but it is all for good cause. So hopefully it won't be painful for you. Also, I had some pretty severe pinched nerve pain at 27 weeks with my daughter, and a good prenatal massage totally got rid of it. So I highly recommend it if you have a specific issue!
Because we're fancy like that.
GET ONE!!! I've had a couple and they have been awesome. Before I got pg, I was seeing a holistic therapist to help with infertility issues (Mayan Abdominal Massage) and the therapist I saw is also a certified pregnancy massage therapist. I would recommend you find someone who specializes in prenatal massage, as they will be better equipped to keep you comfortable (side-laying, plenty of pillows, etc) and will know what positions and pressure to do and not to do.
My back and feet have been really sore, and after my last massage I felt great. And this post reminds me that I need to get in for another one!
I would recommend you go to a spa that offers a prenatal. There are not many that are certified so they will book you with someone who is. It is meant to be therapeutic and they can be quite firm (deep tissue-ish) I went to a well known spa here and hated it because it was too soft so I decided to try the ones at a place called Motherhood Center and I LOVED it. I have had 3 so far and plan on 1 more before the baby.
Enjoy!! They are SO amazing!

it's a girl!!
I went to a local "pregnancy spa" - where they offer pre and postnatal spa services and elective u/s. My therapist was awesome, and I was surprised to find out how much I really enjoyed getting a massage while on my side instead of face down!
My therapist said that the tables with the hole for your belly "Aren't safe", but I'm not sure if that's really true, and I haven't researched it at all. For my massage they had all kinds of bolsters to keep you on your side and it was sooooo comfortable.
Started TTC 05.08
Me: Stage II endo, borderline high FSH
DH: perfect
1 lap, 5 IUIs = 4 BFNs and 1 c/p
2 IVFs, 2 FETs = 1 BFN, 1 c/p, 1 ectopic and finally a sticky BFP in May 2011!
1 FET in Aug 2013 = BFP!
I just had one Tuesday, and checked around before I decided on where I wanted to go.
Fortunately for me (living in a TINY town) I found a woman who was a 25 year OB nurse, who decided to go into her own massage practice. She does have special certification for massaging pregnant ladies.
That was important to me, because I didn't want any old Joe... who has no clue about pregnant ladies bodies, giving me a massage.
I must say it was AH-MA-ZING!
lol
If I were you, I would call around and find someone with that specialty. Just my opinion though!
Good luck hun, you won't regret it!
