Hi ladies. I'm popping over from the IFV board. Im just wondering if anyone has any experience with Shady Grove? We are considering their shared risk program and it seems a little too good to be true. Can anyone offer any input on them?
Thanks!
DS born 10/2008
TTC #2 since 8/2009
MFI and natural killer cell activation diagnosis
IVF #4 = BFP!! Due 10/12!!
I had a second opinion with Dr. Katz at the GBMC location back after my second IVF didn't work. He was really nice, and I liked the office, however he was going to try the same protocol as the clinic I was already going to, and we ultimately stayed with our first clinic. I had insurance coverage at the time, and wouldn't have qualified for the shared risk program unless I used Donor eggs, which adds another 10 grand to the cost. Plus, our current clinic was closer for us, and after hearing that both docs wanted to do the same protocol, staying with my first clinic allowed us to cycle sooner since we were already established there.
If our last IVF cycle hadn't worked, we were strongly considering doing the donor egg shared risk program with Shady Grove, and even went as far as to take out a home equity loan to pay for the cost so we could get started with them right away. I only had one embryo even fertilize for my last cycle, so things were looking pretty gloomy for us, which was why we were already mentally preparing for the next step with Shady Grove.
I do have a friend who is currently pregnant with twins who saw Dr. Esposito (sp?) at the Frederick location (I think it was Frederick) who is obviously very thrilled with her experience. From our discussions about our clinics, and from the one visit I had with Dr. Katz, I feel like Shady Grove was more emotionally supportive with the IF process than my clinic. Since I never cycled there, I don't have much to base my impression on. I hope this helps!
TTC Child #1 Sept '08, Dx: Unexplained, DOR
2 IUI's = BFN, m/c, IVF 1 = 0 embies to put back, IVF 2 = BFN, IVF 3 = cancelled, IVF 4 = BFP with 1 embie. Our son came into our life on 9/28/11. We are in love!
I can't speak for the shared risk program because we didn't use it (though I've only heard good things about it).... but I loved it at Shady Grove. I'm not sure which office you'd be going to but everyone was very friendly and the doctors kept me informed and involved in each cycle.
Good luck with wherever you end up!
Edit: Let me know if you have any other questions!

We went through the Shared Risk/split cycle donor egg program at Shady Grove and were really pleased with our experience there. It is one of the best deals out there for DE, and I also thought it was too good to be true when I first learned about it. But the care was right in line (or better than) the treatment we had received at other clinics. Our MD and nurses were really organized and easy to work with.
I wish you the best moving forward!

We had a very difficult cycle with Shady Grove. If you'd like to know more, feel free to PM me, but it seems like we were more the exception rather than the rule. I will tell you, Rockville has a much higher success rate than the Baltimore office by almost 10%. I've heard wonderful things about the Frederick campus, which is a part of the Rockville campus.
I don't know if they would accept you into the shared risk given your three failed cycles. They may require you to use DS (or fertilize half) or something along those lines to be able to be accepted, although I *definitely* could be wrong. It would definitely be worth the consult to see what they say!
I go to SG and I love them. I have not done the shared risk program but have heard good things about it.
I feel they are professional, very compassionate and accommodating. I have found that they always answer all my questions promptly, whether it is about the financial part or meds or protocols or anything in general. I have been very happy with them so far...just waiting for my take home baby.
With them now. Am divided. Love the speed and efficiency, but I don't appear to fir into any of their neat little holes. I had bad reactions to my stimmed cycles that the nurse just threw out BS answers to that don't fit at all.

I went to SG GBMC also and was very happy there. I was with them for quite a while and really got to know and truly respect them. The REs (at that location, can't speak to the other locations) are to the point. I got to know that they were giving me the advice that they thought was our best course of action, even if it wasn't what I wanted to hear. The nurses and staff were wonderful. Extremely professional, helpful, attentive and provided great emotional support.
We didn't use the shared risk program but had we moved on to donor eggs we may have. I have heard only good things about the shared risk program.

I went to SG Columbia and loved it. They had to do a lot of communicating with my nephrologist so that was trying at times, but all in all it was great. My nurse was fantastic. I absolutely loved her. I could call her any time and she'd always call me back that day no matter what.
Our first cycle didn't go as well as we'd hoped, and I was very concerned for a while that they wanted to use the same protocol for cycle 2, but they ended up being 100% right and that cycle worked. I also liked how my doctor was very concerned for my health/best interest. They're strong advocates for SET. I agree with PP that they tell you the truth even if it's not what you want. I like that in a facility though.
I didn't use Shared Risk, but I had 0 problems with my insurance. As a matter of fact, they were great about billing and I stimmed for such a short time they ended up crediting my second cycle by about $1000. Which.. I never would have known should have been ours.
