FTM Q from 3-6 mo

I have a baby who is 4 mos., and he'll see the pedi this week.

I'm nervous because at the 2 mo. visit, the pedi indicated that the flat spot on DS' head might require a helmet.  I agree that his head does have a spot that is slightly flat on the side that he favored for the first couple of months, but I'm unsure if I agree with the helmet treatment.

I'm wondering if anyone here had experienced a similar situation and opted to skip the helmet?

    If your ped is still concerned at 4mo then I would see a specialist.  You can probably call the craniofacial clinic at your local children's hospital or get a referral from your doctor.  I know neurosurgeons treat in some areas and plastic surgeons in others.  I know it's not ideal, but you if it's necessary you want to treat it sooner rather then later (past 6mo) when it becomes increasingly difficult.

    My son had a severe flat spot on the back of his head from sleeping on his back.  Our pedi does not like to use the helmet unless they see that it is not shaping itself back to normal, which in most cases the head will reshape itself over time.  My son's head totally reshaped itself over time without the use of a helmet.
