Can babies this young get seperation anxiety?!

I might sound crazy and I apologize if I do but I have NO clue what's going on.
My husband is a teacher and has been home with us all summer.  He always took the morning shift with our DD and took her for a 2 hour walk each day.  They had the best routine.  Well....  yesterday he went back to work.  Our DD has been SOOO fussy during the daytime.  I can't help but wonder if she's missing my DH.   It's the ONLY thing that is different.   She is far from being a fussy baby but the last two days have been SO uncharacteristic for her.

anyone have any ideas?!

TIA

  • Are you still doing the 2 hour walk, and any other things DH consistently did during that time?  If not, she might just be confused.

  • It's highly unlikely that it's separation anxiety.  Babies before 6 months aren't cognitively capable of separation anxiety.  They don't have established object permanence and basically don't realize that a parent exists once they've left a room.  I agree with PP; it's probably due to a change in the routine.

  • Well my LO is starting to hate it when I leave the room. She looks for me and watches me and if she can't see me she'll start to cry so I would say yes.

I also agree with PP it could be the 2 hour walk she misses. Or just the general change to her routine.

Over the holiday DH and I were with the in-laws and we let M visit with her grandmum for probably 2 hrs. She cried and fussed the whole time. And I had her practically asleep before we left. Idk, I believe in anxiety.

I believe in anxiety in babies, just not typically this young.  Just based on studies we've read in child development courses.  But babies can definitely hit certain milestones early!

  • Oh, and 3 months is the age when most babies start to show preference for their primary caregivers.  They'll be more easily comforted or cheered by them due to their smell, the way in which they hold them, etc.

Same here, it just started this week.  Also, today she wouldn't take a bottle from the nursery school staff (she was there one hour while I was at a meeting...and it was her usual feeding time).  She's ALWAYS taken a bottle, once a day, from either me, DH or her usual sitter (who only sits about once or twice amonth).

I use a lot of parenthesis.
