Trouble TTC

Terrified to give myself my HCG shot tonight :(

I know many of you said it was fine, it's the "dart like" fashion that I need to administer it that freaks me out!

Can someone walk me through it? I'm not sure why I'm so scared! This is the end of it!

The nurse said I could ice the area and she marked where to do it (it's kind of on my side) I feel like darting would hurt - kind of like stabbing myself, right?

Re: Terrified to give myself my HCG shot tonight :(

  • I usually pinch my skin where I will inject it then push it through. Honestly though, it really doesn't hurt. The needle is too small.

  • I was worried too.  I did my first shot this weekend.  I pinched the skin and pushed it in and never felt a thing!   It wasn't sore during or afterwards.  Good Luck....you can do it!!
  • I agree with the other ladies - it really doesn't hurt.  But I'm terrified of doing it myself, too - can you have someone give it to you?  DH does mine and he's a pro now!

  • I am not bothered by needles, etc.  I grabbed some belly fat (there's plenty of it LOL) and did it, I did not even feel it, not even a little bit!  Don't be scared.  If it bother you, just look away.  You won't even be able to tell you did it.

  • Dart like swift and in one motion not dart like jab. I personally picked a spot and then just pushed. I never really pinched too hard or iced or heated. The needle is so small you can't mess it up. GL!

  • Is it IM?

If so, look up PIO shots on you tube. There are plenty of videos. I watched a few different ones, then got up the nerve to do it. It doesn't really hurt. The angle is weird, trying to give yourself a shot in the butt, but I did it in front of a full length mirror so I could see where I was going. And the needle is long which was disconcerting, but it didn't hurt at all. I think it is better than the PIO because it's just in sterile water.

    Good luck!

  • Hi there!

I'm a self proclaimed weenie--like you wouldn't believe. But I find all things medical fascinating. I could easily give injections to others, or the pets or whatever, but not to myself. I don't know what my issue is, but I can't bring myself to do it. DH has stepped up twice now!

ANYWAY, I wanted to let you know that I felt it, but it didn't hurt bad at all.I had my first trigger shot last night. I think my anticipation was the worst part! I hope you can relax a bit (don't you hate when people say that?) and realize that when this is over, there isn't anything else to be afraid of.

    GL to you!

  • Yes, dart-like please!!!! I know it's scary, but to inject it slow will hurt WAY more. All you'll likely feel with the dart-like motion is the initial poke (which you won't feel if you ice it), and the medication going in. My trigger, I don't feel anything at all, but mine is subQ, so not sure if that makes a big difference.
