Jake is still on two naps, first nap is anywhere between 945AM-1030- for about hour and half/2 hrs...then he naps again late in the afternoon 3/330-5pm..He will never sleep 5pm and goes to bed between 7/30..
I am wondering when we should start transitioning to one nap? He still seems to need both of them..He rubs his eyes, goes right down usually for both of them. But I know many of my friends who's kids are older are on the one nap a day usually from 11-1 or something like that..So when do you feed them lunch before hand after?
So how should I start to do this or should I just keep things the same until he tells me he is ready?
Also we are planning on sending J to MDO like program in January it will be from 9AM-1230..I would assume he would eat lunch there and then nap when he came home. This would be great cause Baby 2 will also need a late afternoon nap and I would LOVE to get them to both nap at the same time..Wishful thinking I am sure..
What do you all think?
Re: 13-15mth old nap schedule..
I think if he's happy doing 2 naps, you should do two naps.
For a while, the boys were doing 1 or 2 naps at dc during the week but still doing their 2 naps on weekends. Then about two weeks ago it became a struggle to put Harry down for his second nap. Nowdays they both take 1 nap during the week (1-2 hours) and then 1 or 2 naps on weekends. I miss our predicatable schedule!
FWIW, during the week, they eat lunch at 11:30 and nap starts at 12.

Ha, sounds like us. :-)
Anna still sleeps 2 hours in the morning and almost always 2 in the afternoon. And gives me 12+ at night. In the morning, she is stumbling around, clutching her blanket, and laying on the floor by 8:30am (nap is at 9:00am) - so I just see NO way how she could make it until 11ish. She needs that morning nap!
I am going to let her take the lead on transitioning. I figure her morning nap will either start getting shorter or she will go longer before getting tired. Until then, I LOVE my two breaks during the day! :-)
My only caveat is if she seems like she is trying to transition right around the time the baby is due. I would rather tackle the transition to one nap BEFORE the baby comes than in those newborn days, so I will push it if she starts showing signs in December. But if I can keep her on 2 naps when the baby is born - that would be awesome. However, I think the chances of that are slim...
Because we're fancy like that.
I was hoping you would respond!! We are both in the same boat with our kiddos!
Jake does the same thing..He is a hot mess at like 930ish and goes right down usually..the issue is that many of our baby classes are9-10AM..so I just push him and then he naps till about noonish..
I also LOVE the late afternoon nap. It's my favorite part of the day!!
I never forced DD into a schedule. She dropped a nap when she was ready.
I feed DD when she gets up (around 9), then she has a snack around 10:30, and goes down for a nap around noonish. She has a late lunch when she gets up, and dinner with us around 6:30.
I'm not sure I realized how similar our situations were! Fun. :-)
Yeah, Anna is a bit different, since she is early to bed/early to rise. She sleeps 6/6:30pm - 6:30/7am, and she is ready for a nap by 8:30, but I push her until 9am because otherwise she is up too early, her afternoon nap is too early, and she is a hot mess by 5pm. Gotta love it.
My only real complaint is that 11-2:30 is our only time to get out of the house/get anything done. When you add lunch in there, we don't have a lot of time for classes, etc. I am hoping to get her into a 3:30pm swim class by waking her up early from her afternoon nap, but life has been too crazy for us to enroll just yet. One nap would give us more flexibility for classes, but eh.... I'm not sure it is worth it just yet! I like my two naps. First nap: my breakfast and shower. Second nap: cooking dinner, bumping and/or relaxing. :-)
Because we're fancy like that.
Lincoln at 22 months still has two naps about 75% of the time. He needs them! He sleeps about 12 hours at night too. I will just let him take the lead. ALL three are put down for an afternoon nap around 1ish, and will sleep until they get up! Sometimes 2:30, sometimes 4.
However, having more than one, sometimes the younger ones have to nap on the run! We were out this AM, and Linc and Gwen had to sleep in the car if they were tired. We got home around 11:45 they ate, and went down. Kids benefit from schedules, but they also benefit from being flexible!
