Swaddlers, a question.

I swaddle M at night and she is STTN, but during naps I don't swaddle and sometimes she sleeps a few minutes, sometimes a few hrs. Do you swaddle all the time, or only at night?

Re: Swaddlers, a question.

  • We do all the time.  Any times we haven't for naps, the naps only lasted about 10 minutes.

  • Since I don't swaddle for naps do you think stopping will be hard later?

Stopping sswaddling at night?  No.  I think the less you swaddle the easier it will be to get rid of it!

  • only at night.  our pedi just said to stop around 5 months.

  • We've been trying to have him nap without the swaddle once in a while to see how it goes.  It's worked alright about 5 times since the weekend started.  Most of the time he just wakes himself up after about 15-20 minutes.  This morning he slept for a full hour unswaddled though and I felt like that was huge. lol.
  • DD has been swaddled overnight since day 1, and we've kept her arms out for a few months now (been STTN for about 2 months).  Nothing for naps or at daycare, and those can last 2-3 hours at a time.

We are trying to wean her from the swaddle all together now, and just dress her in long pajamas.  She's in the middle of her 4MW right now, so I figure if she wasn't going to be sleeping through the night, we might as well de-swaddle now, too!

  • We stopped swaddling last week and have been using the sleep sacs. It was a very easy transition...she never cried or looked uncomfortable and her sleep time has been the same as when she was swaddled.

  • We only swaddle at night as part of the bedtime routine so she knows it is time to sleep longer.  During the day she sleeps unswaddled the naps only last an hour or so but I don't want her to get confused.

  • We swaddle at night (she is STTN), but she isn't swaddled for naps at daycare.  She still gives them a good 2hr nap some days.

Haven't tried leaving her unswaddled at night yet, I don't want to ruin a good thing.  Plus she's only 3 months, so we'll continue for a little while longer.
