DH's coworker gave their 2 week old prune juice.

Yep. Can you believe it? Apparently, they thought the baby was constipated so they went ahead and gave him prune juice. Obviously, they didn't consult with a doctor first. Tongue Tied

    I wouldn't do it, but it's not terrible either.

    I think you misread. They didn't consult a doctor first.

    my pedi had us giving our 2 week old a really small amount of prune juice to get her system going (she hadn't gone in several days and was in obvious pain). 

    just saying that what they did isn't crazy or terrible.   we wouldn't have done it without our pedi telling us to, but it is an acceptable treatment. 

    ETA:  we just added 1/2 an ounce to her formula, we didn't give her a whole bottle of straight up prune juice.

    Ugh..

    That's like my SIL who gave her baby chocolate cake and ice cream at 4 months old.

    Sad thing is there are still drs in my area who recommend doing that, specifically for BF babies who haven't pooped in a week.

    I know of one who recommended this to an acquaintance of mine- he's accepting new patients- oddly enough I didn't choose him when I had to ditch my own dr.

    One of my old high school friends had a baby right after we graduated. We went to the mall one day and she stopped by a candy shop to buy some candy for both of them. She just unwrapped a lollipop and stuck it in the kids mouth. I think he was about 6 months at the time. Even though we were just teenagers at the time, I remember thinking she was an idiot.
