TTC after 35

Accupuncture

I am thinking of giving this a try.  My BFF had tremendous results for migraines going to one.  In addition to fertility I was hoping it may help my sciatic nerve as well.

So how does one go about finding a good accupucturist - especially one that specializes in fertility?

Re: Accupuncture

  • I'm just about to try it, too (first appointment on Saturday).  I went for a neighborhood person because I knew there was a much higher likelihood I could keep up with it on a regular basis if the acupuncturist were nearby.  Did a lot of web-searching and referencing of credentials to find mine.  We'll see how it goes -- he's an older man trained in China in Chinese medicine (was an MD there).

If you're in or near a major metro area you might mention it in your post -- I bet others here have recs.

  • Ask your RE. I went to an acupuncturist for six months who was nice but did not specialize in fertility. I asked my RE and they recommended a couple of places. I did a consultation with both. Both were very nice and I chose the one who had a treatment plan and philosophy that was more in line with me. I love love love her. I have regular 28 day cycles and ovulate at CD14. It also cut back on the frequency and intensity of my migraines. It can be a bit pricey since I go three times a month and it took 3 months to get really good results. My FSA does cover my visits which really helps.

  • I highly recommend acupuncture! IVF #1: 6 eggs retrieved; 1 fertilized. IVF #2 with acupuncture 2x/week: 13 eggs retrieved; 12 fertilized. I did have a change in protocol, but I give acupuncture credit too. If nothing else, it's a wonderful stress reliever and helped with bloating tremendously.
TTC since 1/10 IVF #1: BFN IVF #2 with ICSI: m/c at 8 weeks
  • I agree that u should try to find someone close because it should be a several month long commitment. My current acupuncturist does not specialize in fertility but my last one did. She helped me regulate my wacky cycles and I ended up pregnant with my son who is now 4. Now as I am trying for #2 my cycles are still getting better and she's not a fertility specialist. I am a big supporter of acupuncture no matter what the reason. It has helped me with stress and anxiety over the last several months.

  • I just started. The referral from the RE (or any doctor) is a great idea. We just found one from randomly calling around and asking questions. We had to settle on one (because of costs) that doesn't specialize in fertility, but even so she had a lot of information about fertility on her website (and lots of baby pics on her bulletin board!) I'm guessing fertility is a big part of a lot of practices.
