Food Allergy

Red splotches on face? help?

I was wondering if anyone here has had an experience similar to mine.

After eating my daughter sometimes gets very red splotches on her cheeks and chin. She doesn't seem to have any reaction on her tongue or lips, and the redness on her face doesn't appear to bother her.

I put normally just put cortaid on it and it completely goes away by morning.

I was wondering if I should be concerned avout food allergies or if this is more of a topical reaction.

It seems to happen with ranch dressing, and red sauces? TIA

  • That is how my son reacted to peanuts and turkey.....and how we found out he was allergic to both.  It could be acid from tomato-y products but that wouldn't explain the ranch dressing.

  • my son's reactions to milk are also like this. It all depends on the level of the allergy to how a child reacts.

It could be dairy and/or tomatoes..

reactions can get worse sometimes so if i was you i would go to an allergist and have her tested. Keep a list of foods you think she's reacting to so they can test her for them (plus the top 8).  In the meantime i would buy a bottle of childrens benadryl just to have in the house and keep a food/reaction journal and watch her carefully when she's eating new foods (or ones that are known to give her a reaction).

  • This is how my DD reacts to egg. We just confirmed egg allergy yesterday.

It has happened with red sauce before, too, but she tested negative for tomato and several spices.  The allergist thinks that her eczema is aggravated by the acid, causing it to flare up.
