Halloween costumes for whole family--any ideas?

I have a feeling that we'll be invited to a few Halloween parties this year where everyone--both adults and kids--get dressed up. So, I'm trying to find a costume theme for DH, Piper, Fletch, and me. For example, we have friends that dressed up as the Simpsons with the parents being Homer and Marge and their three kids as Bart, Lisa, and Maggie (including their baby wearing a blue sleep sack and paci). Another set of friends dressed up as The Incredibles.

So, any creative ideas of what we could all be?

  • We (half jokingly) threw around the idea of all of us (me, DH, kids, and a neighborhood family) would dress up as The Jersey Shore.  It is not the most tasteful/family friendly idea but I think it would be hysterical!

I have also seen a lot of Star Wars costumes for little kids and I am sure you could find adult Star Wars as well.

I  may have to suggest this just for the sheer number of cool (or maybe nerdy) wife points I'd get from DH. He'd love nothing more than for us to dress the babies as little Ewoks.

Nah, they should be Luke and Leia.  They were twins, after all!  You could be Amidala and your DH could be pre-helmet Vader.

And now that I have shocked myself with my own nerdiness, I'm going to go hide.

  • There are tons of animal costumes for infants and toddlers out there.  You could dress up like Bo Peep, DH like a Shepard and the babies as lambs.  Or you and DH could each dress up like farmers and do a cow and pig for example.  My girls are going to be monkeys and I'm going to make/get DH and I monkey shirts to wear - we won't be going all out though.

  • An easy costume that would work for the family would be to be an NFL team--DH could go as the head coach, your LOs football players and you as the head cheerleader!

  • DH and I are going to dress in white and go as beekeepers, and our girls are going to be dressed up as our bees. I need to find some yellow onesies and add black felt stripes and make black antenna headbands. :)

  • As a family we have done the cast of Shrek, it was a blast!

  • I like the chef costumes where the parents are chefs and the kids are veggies, lobsters or cupcakes.

  • You could dress the babies up as animals (tiger, monkey, lion, elephant, etc) and then dress you and your H in khaki shirts & pants and be the zoo keepers. I've also seen family s'mores costumes - mom & dad as Graham crackers and the kids as a marshmallow and a chocolate bar.
