Hi Ladies,
DS is my second child. We started DD with solids when she began to show a lot of interest in our food. DS is on his way that. He is just starting to look at our food so I think he will be ready in the coming weeks. With that, I am trying to rember what we did to start off DD. I remember putting a few tablespoons of formula with cereal and mixing it but how often do you give it to them? How soon after do you do the flavors (i.e. carrots, sweet potatoes, etc.)? I am going to try to make my own food, too, this time so any info that will help so I can get preppred is helpful.
Thanks so much!

LOL! Does he watch you put the cat up to your mouth and make "eating" movements with his?
I don't want to push food on my son, I was just wondering if that indeed was one of the signs. It appears that it's not. I don't think he's ready but I hate using oatmeal as a filler and he will eat all day long if just given plain formula. I want him to get some of the vitamins and nutritional value from fruits and vegetables rather than empty oatmeal carbs.
If you're already doing oatmeal, you could probably give some of the stage 1 foods a shot.

Avocado or banana are among the easiest, as you don't have to cook them.

I've given him a tiny bit at a time, 3 days of same food but only one food in a week. So like 2 tablespoons of it TOTAL in a week because I don't want to over do it. I started with "orange" foods because that's what I heard you should do. He liked squash the best. I plan to move on to something new this week but I'm not sure if I should go with peas or bananas. I also heard that if you give them something sweet they won't want to eat the veggies.....I bought Earth's Best and Beech Nut to see which one he will like better.
Oh my god, this made me burst out laughing....in a very quiet office. Ha!

DD had her 4 month check up yesterday and, while we plan to wait until 6 months to start solids, the doctor told us clues to look for that she'll be ready at that point. One he mentioned was not only staring at food, but reaching for the fork or spoon. And he said she's probably ready when she starts eating (I think) 30-35 oz a day. I EBF so I have no idea how much she gets - he said I'll know when I'm having a hard time keeping up. But anyway, just thought I'd pass along what he said to us.
Bahaha.

Good to know. He's putting away around 38 oz with oatmeal a day. I have his next pedi visit, shots
, on the 19th and I will be sure to talk to her about it as well.
