*** kastle ***

M does the same thing as Sprout re having a different meaning of words/signs than we do. He also uses "more" to mean "I want that thing over there." Then he gets mad when we don't give him what he wants. Tongue Tied

  • yes.  sprout also gets very, very mad.  lots o tears in the kastle household these days!

it's extra frustrating to me b/c when I repeat a word (like "who's here?!  Is dada home?  yes!  dada is here!") he'll look at me like I have 3 heads or willfully ignore me.  i figure that his frustration will reach a crisis and he'll finally come around to talking.  I feel like he knows what words mean (I mean, homeboy certainly reacts when I say "breakfast", "lunch," "dinner," "banana," or "turn off the light"), but is almost refusing to say anything.  and, at times, it does feel like a refusing (which i realize sounds nuts)...he very much wants to do things when he wants to do them & not a moment before!  which is kind of funny given his birth...he didn't want to come out & no matter of convincing would make that happen!

  • Yes, lots of crying here too, especially when he's trying to communicate something and we don't understand it. I'm sure it must be frustrating for them.

It took me a while to figure out that some of M's sounds were attempts at words. Like "uh" means "up" and "mah" means "more." After he started making the same sounds in the same context, I figured it out, but it's still a lot of guessing. I'm still not sure if "baba" is supposed to mean something, but he kept saying it last night and got frustrated when I didn't respond the way he wanted me to.

This is what DS did too.  The worst is when it's the same sound to mean different things.

Baba for us meant ball, banana, and blankie.  Possibly something else too, but it has obviously been a long time at this point.
