Curious - How many of you used OPKs with success and how long did you use them before conceiving? Or if you used them and they were unsuccessful for you, please speak up about your experience.
Some background - I've never used them. I have gotten pregnant 3 times without much trouble (although my first took 11 months and an OPK probably would have been nice, but I'm not sure they were around then). In fact, my most recent child was conceived on the first go around after having sex only once. My body was like clockwork then (17 months ago). After having him and breastfeeding for a year, I'm still out of whack cycle-wise. We're trying for #4 and have had some trouble. I'd like to try an OPK, and wanted more info from successful/unsuccessful people.
Thanks!
Re: OPKs
I used OPKs my last few cycles. For me they were helpful mainly because I typically had a temp dip a few days before I ovulated, so I would always see the temp rise and think that I had ovulated and we would stop being so vigilante about having sex, lol, but we were stopping too soon, and by the time I realized I had ovulated it was past the window. So the OPKs gave me a much better idea of when I was going to ovulate and helped us to not miss the window.
Also, seeing negative and positive OPKs on semi-regular basis made it so much easier when I tested for pregnancy, because I knew exactly what I was looking for!
OPK's and TTGP are pretty much the only reason I am KU right now. Fertility Friend had my O date way too early and I kept using them b/c I was not convinced. Turns out FF was wrong and I got a +OPK on CD20 and really O'd on CD23 of my last cycle.
I just highly recommend the cheapies from Amazon so you can use them 2x a day.
Good Luck!
I went on amazon and got a bunch of wondfo OPK's (really cheap, like 50 for $10 dollars). I used them 2x daily about 4-9 days from ovulation. And I used them for 3 months, with the 3rd month being a success.
If you go to peeonastick.com it'll tell you when, based on your cycle, that you should start using them. My cycles were always different so I started at different times.
With DS I tried for 9 months total, the last 3 using OPK's. With the 2nd pregnancy that was lost, it was a surprise because I was still BF'ing and had only had 3 random periods since DS was born and in no kind of pattern. With this pregnancy we used the OPK's for one month and pregnant again, just like that. We're amazed at how "easy" it was this time.
