Thanks for all the advice gals. I ended up packing up the car for the day, getting him up and dressed, and in the car with his milk. He insisted on both of his loveys for the whole ride. He is able to eat breakfast there (small in home daycare) so I just packed him some food and she provided the rest. The hardest part was leaving, since he was barely awake and not at all happy to have me leave him with a stranger. Tomorrow I plan to get there earlier so I can spend some time with him playing there. And now my friends tell me that the second day was the hardest!

Re: Update: 1st Day at Daycare
I am glad it went okay, it will get easier and your system will start to feel very natural for your
PS-Leaving should be like pulling off a band-aid. A quick kiss goodbye and then out the door. Yes, it is fine to play with him the first couple of days but after that, i wouldn't get in the habit of it.
Daycare Seperation anxiety starts to set in at this age and although the kid is usually fine after the mom leaves, it makes the parent feel like crap for the rest of the day.

I think I'd rather have his first day than my first day. I walked in the school to find that my host teacher is "being punished" for having low test scores the year before. He therefore gets all the low scoring and behavioral problem kids this year. Some other teachers may dump their low scorers on him too. Yeah me. Any bets on how many fist fights in the classroom?
That makes no sense at all. Why give a teacher with low test scores kids that are going to test low.
Setting him up for failure much?
If it doesn't go well over the next couple days contact your student teaching supervisor and let him know the situation. Maybe you can get a different placement?
I had a friend who had a horrible cooperating teacher and she learned a lot of bad habits becasue of her. It took her many years to break those habits and learn new ones.
Good luck!

At least you got the low scoring class as a student teacher and not as a first year teacher (I did, that didn't end well...) Good luck!
As far as day care goes, you'll adjust, your child will thrive and mornings only get easier, and afternoons are awesome!
I agree with this. Do not linger, it only makes it worse.
