This is my first pregnancy, so I can't tell you for sure. But my doctor told me "It will be a pain that you absolutely cannot handle. When the pains are 5 minutes apart for an hour, then come to the hospital."
Hard to tell. My early "real" contractions the pain started in my lower back, moved around my sides, my belly tightened (just like a BH contraction) then loosened and it started all over again about 10 minutes later. After several hours it was consistant and became more painful. I walked around 3cm dilated with my son for more than 2 weeks, but consider it a wonderful "head start!"

It could be your body practicing for real labor. I have the same thing with all my pregnancies near the end. I'm currently 2cm and 50% and have a week and a half left. My other two pregnanices I was walking around 3cm for three weeks with same pains.
To me, it just sounds like normal aches and pains associated with the end of pregnancy. When it's early labor and contractions, you will know! Contractions almost radiate across your belly and sometimes the pain comes from the back to the front. What you're describing to me just sounds like you're running out of room for LO!
I am in the EXACT same boat at you. But I am 37 weeks and measuring 38 cm (fundal height) 3cm dilated and 50% effaced! I was told things are definitely moving, and I will not make it to my due date. What is your family history of child deliveries like? In mine, both of my sisters did not labor (contractions to baby crying) for more than 8 hours! That said, I am freaking out this baby is going to come fast!! Also, I have a freakishly high pain tolerance and could be having "real" contractions and not know it! It happened to my mom... And looks like it is happening to me!
