Anyone at Fort Irwin? Question for you...

Unfortunately for us, my husband is stationed at Fort Irwin so we are living smack in the middle of the Mojave Desert, an hour drive from the nearest town. FML. But I'm wondering if anyone else is here and if you have any information on doulas in the Barstow/Victorville/Apple Valley area or any doulas who would be willing to drive out here?

I have been searching for a doula all day but it seems the closest ones are in Rancho or farther. A few months ago I saw a car in the gym parking lot here on post with a decal advertising a doula service, but of course that was before I was pregnant or considering a natural birth so I didn't think to take down the info. Any help here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much! :)

    My DH was stationed at Irwin from 2006--2008. I know it can seem bleak and isolated, but I really miss it (crazy, I know).

    I was not pregnant while we lived there, but wanted to suggest talking to the staff in the OB office. They *might* be able to give you suggestions. I do recall the quality of attention to detail was hit and miss, but my experiences were from three years ago.

    Have you made contact with the doula in Rancho to see if they know of anybody in the Barstow/Victorville/AV area? They may be able to point you in the direction of someone local.

    Good luck with your search. I hope you are able to find a doula to assist you with your birth.

    Have you checked both DONA.org and doulamatch.net? Also, I had a lot of success (not in your area though) with just googling. As well as asking at your hospital, check for birth classes and see if the instructors can recommend someone. La Leche League would also be a good resource.
