I'm working retail again, which means weird hours. SO also works weird hours, but we try to coordinate so that we don't have to leave Matthew with a sitter. But with the holiday season coming up, my boss needs me to work more hours, which means that sometimes my hours overlap with SO's.
MIL refuses to help out when she can, and my mom also works retail so she's rarely available. I've tried both Sittercity & Care.com, as well as CL. Most sitters are asking $15-$20 AN HOUR! That's outrageous & more than I make per hour.
How much do you ladies pay an "occasional sitter"? Any suggestions where I can find one that won't cost us my entire paycheck?
Re: Talk to me about babysitters
We have 2 babysitters, one was the classroom assistant in DD's class last year and she was $12 / hour I was totally fine with paying that because I was hesitant about leaving her with a non-family sitter and the fact that this was someone I knew worked with kids every day and was CPR certified, etc gave me peace of mind, also she was in her early 20's.
Now, we have another one who is a senior in high school and we pay her $10 / hour which I think is pretty average, I have a cousin who is 17 and she also charges $10 / hour.
