Diaper Debate

We've used Pampers since A was born.  I love them.  We tried Huggies when she was NB, but they didn't hold well like the Pampers did.  However, we were given a whole Costco size pack of the Huggies for size 2 (whcih she is in now).  They work great during the day, but I'm finding some serious leakage at night.  Is this normal?  If I do make the switch over to Huggies - do I need to get the overnight ones?  Is this common to need two kinds of diapers?

Thanks ladies! :)

Re: Diaper Debate

  • We have been using huggie overnights since M was a few months old. We change her right before bed into her night diaper. during the day we use whatever I bought on sale awhile back. So yes 2 types of diapers is what we do

  • I have always used a "night time" diaper for night and then a daytime diaper. Also, make sure you don't put a onesie on at night. That lead to leaking diapers with both kids.

  • We do 7th generations during the day and Huggies Overnights at night.  My kids are/were heavy nighttime soakers and without the overnight, I'd need to change diapers during the night- which just wakes them up. So yes, in my experience I've had different luck with different diapers.  And we like Huggies Overnights but not their daytime diapers!

  • We only use Huggies.  Alivia got a rash from pampers.  We haven't had any issues with huggies.  We used the little snugglers until she was about 6 months then we used the snug & dry.  We only had a few nights with her leaking the pee.  She is a slim baby. *shrug*

  • We also use a nighttime diaper. Max is like a camel, he stores all his liquid until he goes to sleep at night. Then, he wakes up in a giant puddle. The overnights definitely help with this.

  • For a long time we used two kinds.  Up & Up during the day and Pampers Baby Dry at night.  Now I'm getting the Pampers through Amazon Mom so they're the same price as the Target diapers.  No need to have 2 anymore.

Just curious - what's the reasoning behind this?

  • I've always just used pampers, whatever type I had in the house. I would hate to have to use two different types of diapers, but I'm really unorganized so I would get them messed up.

We only have one changing station/table (its a dresser drawer of diapers).  At one point we had 4 types in it- Little's days, Little's nights, Big's Pullups, Big's nights.  I am the MOST unorganized person I've ever met- but each stayed (reasonably) in its corner and were all different colors/designs, so it worked ok.

  • We used Pampers for NB-1, and then switched to Huggies for both day and night. M hardly pees at night though, some mornings it seems like her diaper is still completely dry. She did pee out of a Huggies on TJ last month. She'd had a bottle of water that day and must have had to go b/c he'd just changed her diaper before it happened.

We use pampers baby dry 5 during the day and huggies overnight 5 at night.
I hated the pee smell from the pampers in the morning so we got the huggies and they aren't quite as bad.  E nurses a lot still at night, so we get very full diapers.

The pampers are elmo and the huggies are pooh, Emily knows the difference and can get the one we need from the closet.  Downstairs are only pampers since that is daytime.
