I went in to get Warner this morning and he had a huge blood stain on his pillow. It was a size of a small dinner plate. He had dried blood on his face, obviously coming out of his nose.
I called the doctor this morning and left a msg, waiting for a call back now, but I'm kind of freaked out. I won't post a picture (because that's gross), but it really looks like a LOT of blood.
Warner is acting totally fine today...he ate a good breakfast this morning and isn't complaining about anything.
The only thing I could think of is that maybe when he was playing before he fell asleep, he hit his nose on the side of his bed, but if he hit it that hard, I have to think he would have cried and I would have heard him and I would also think that he'd have some kind of exterior bruise. I'm not a fan of this type of mystery!!
Re: nosebleed wtf?
Maggie used to get a lot of nosebleeds. Now they are less frequent but she also catches them early so it doesn't look so bad. Truly it would look like a massacre in her crib - blood all over her sheets, the stuffed animals, her. She needed a bath and we needed a good amount of peroxide to get out the blood stains. Her poor stuffed lamb look downright sacrificial. It was scary to walk in on that.
Also oddly enough Molly hasn't had a single one so I guess this isn't just par for the course when they are younger like I thought it was with Maggie. I do remember getting frequent nosebleeds as a kid - either when it was super hot in the summer or too dry in the winter.
Poor Warner. It's definitely possible that he didn't hit it and it just happened randomly. I used to get nosebleeds all the time when I was a kid. When it happened to me at night, I usually didn't know so it just ended up bleeding all over the place. Mine used to happen more often in the winter when it was less humid and dryer in the house.
Hopefully the doctor can provide some reassuring information.
this is my son. they are a little less frequent lately, but for about 18 months, we would have 1 or 2 nosebleeds a week. most we'd catch during the day, but occasionally they would happen at night and we'd wake up to what looked like a horror movie scene in his room.
a humidifier helped.
