I'm experiencing pretty severe nausea and it's becoming increasingly worse. My OB/GYN is going to put me on Zofran, but I've read online that no tests have been done to confirm whether this drug causes any problems with the fetus. I'm in my sixth week. If ANYONE has heard any negative reports on taking Zofran when pregnant, please let me know as I will not even begin ingesting the medicine.
Thanks!!!
Re: ZOFRAN - Is anyone else taking this for nausea?
I have not. But was talking to a friend yesterday who was on it most of her pregnancy. She said if I ever get that issue to ask to be put on it. Her twins are 2 & very healthy.
Feel better!
My friend's co-worker had a baby about a year ago and she had to take Zofran herself. She said it was literally a miracle and helped her out so much and her baby is fine. She actually took the generic bc Zofran is expensive. I am actually going to the doc tomorrow for my 8 week appointment and am going to ask for some help here as well. I am leaving my desk so often to get sick I can't get my work done as quickly as I need to.
Plus if your OB prescribed it, it cannot be that harmful as I don't think their intent is to risk your baby's health.
Good Luck!

I have been on it since week 6. I can't keep down water without it, like pp said.
I have read MANY reports that have stated that the birth defect rate for those taking it are identical to those who don't take it - FWIW.
I was on Zofran for the first two and for this baby. It is not a cure all for me but it helps me function throughout the day and night.
Hope you feel well soon!
It was a lifesaver for me for the last month or so of the first trimester. I only wish I'd gotten it sooner. It's been proven safe in animal testing; they just haven't done enough studies on pregnant women (must be hard to get test subjects, I think) to make a statement one way or the other, but nothing abnormal has been reported as of yet. Take it and feel better... though be forewarned, it can constipate the hell out of you.
If it's any consolation, my mom is a nursing supervisor at a home infusion company, and their hyperemesis gravidarum patients ("pregnant pukers") are on MUCH stronger stuff and their babies are fine.

I'm also on it (and was on it with my first too), but it isn't helping me as much this time around. However, as the pp said, it is constipating me in a CRAZY way! So, I recommend you take colace or metamusil (sp?) tablets with it - it will help you keep regular when you are taking it.
Good luck!
