Pump n' Save or Dump?

I'm heading to IA this weekend solo for a wedding, flying out early early Saturday morning and getting back Sunday mid-morning.  I'm going to bring my pump, but I'm trying to figure out if its worth all the hassle to store the BM and bring it back with me.  I don't have a solid stash at home, but LO takes formula from a bottle just fine.  What would DC Bumpies do?

  • I'd try to bring as much back as possible, but I always hated losing milk. I went through so much effort to get it, you know?

  • I agree with PP, however, it might be difficult to keep it cold enough that it won't spoil. Good luck!

  • It's only a day's worth of milk? Will you have a fridge/freezer where you're staying to keep icepacks? To be honest,  I would be tempted to dump, especially if you plan to have a few glasses of wine or whatever at the wedding anyway.
  • One day? I'd probably dump it rather than deal with the hassle of transporting it back.

  • Gah, I hadn't even thought of the fridge/freezer.  I'll have to call the hotel to see if the rooms have them.

Has anyone had trouble getting their pumped milk through TSA security?  I've only brought formula on a plane in the past.

  • I'd keep it.  You can request that a fridge be placed in your room.  There shouldn't be an extra charge.  I've done this before at various hotels when I've had to be away from my DDs.  I have flown with BM bottles and hemp milk in a sippy cup and never had problems.  Just tell them what it is.  They may "scan" it and just to be sure it's milk.  My pump came with a cooler bag a ice packs did yours?  If so, I would just bring those along and put the milk on ice when you leave the hotel for the airport.  BM can be stored at room temp for up to 10 hours, so you should be good with an ice pack or two for your plane ride.  If you decide at the end of your trip it wasn't kept cold enough, then you can dump it.  But I wouldn't dump it before.  At the very least you can add it to your freezer stash.
