TTC after 35

plus size and ttc

anyone plus size and ttc?  i have lost about 15# since 1/11 and working on more, but wondering how being plus effects the process and what, if any, advice you might have.  Also wondering if need any other vitamins beside just the prenatal?  I have been taking that for about a year but not sure if need anything else.  Any and all advice accepted.  Thanks!!!

Re: plus size and ttc

  • I've been plus size for all my pregnancies. With my first two, I was probably a size 28 - 30 (I'm 5'10", so I'm already a big girl). I was a 22 with #3 but gained about 70 lbs (includes the baby) - got up to a 26/8 after the birth. I've lost all that now, and am now a 22 again. I've heard that losing weight increases fertility. I never needed any additional vitamins - just the usual prenatals.

  • Good question.  I am a size 10/12 and most people now consider that a plus size.  I am short though.... 5'4" but pretty solid.  I was a size 6 with my first and an 8 with my second.... I only took prenatal vitamins.  I have known MANY plus size ladies size 12 and up that have delivered very healthy babies.  Good luck to you!

  • Another issue when trying to lose weight and getting pregnant is that diets can throw your period schedule off.

I take Fish oil which is recommended, calcium, prenatal, Vit C and E and a multi.

  • Wow ladies thanks.  Awesome.  When talking plus, I'm 22-24 depending on cut.  Like j, am about 5'10 and don't look like I weigh what I do.  I am trying to figure out my cycles right now because was on bcp for many years; over 10 and stopped about a year ago.  I was very irregular prior to bcp and was like clockwork on.  I am still pretty regular.  So don't know.  Reilly, is that too much vitamins?  I know i've heard that there is such a thing as too much.   i was talking to my fam doc at a reg appt last week and he said that some of the otc fish oils have mercury and things like that??  Just not sure.  Waiting for the holiday weekend to end so I can make some calls and get scheduled with OB or midwife.  Haven't decided which I want to see.  Am thinking about both so I can get a better idea.  I just don't know somedays.  Get myself so overwhelmed.  Thanks again for all the info.  Y'all rock!!!

  • I have been recently diagnosed with diabetes.  i have been on metformin which i was also told can help with conception esp. if have PCOS; not sure if that's me.  I am expecting to be at the doc's all the time when preg if diabetic.  I have had much success with the metformin controlling my sugars though.  had bw last week and glyco was 6 and have only been on the meds a few months.  So that is good nvews.  Nice to know that it might not be as challenging as everyone says.  I am trying to loose; nothing real drastic.  just eating more healthy and as soon as the freaking rain stops here in central pa want to start walking again.

  • I am 5'2, and was a size 6 when I got pg with DS.  I was a size 16 when TTC DD...many years later.  Doc did tell me to try to lose weight because I was struggling to conceive, so I did, and conceived at a size 8-10.  Now I am a solid 12, working on a 14, and I know 20 lb would make a difference.  I am running again, and trying to make things happen soon.  It sucks, with everything else going on with TTC royally FML, you know?
