What do you hang in kids closet versus what you put in closet?

So far we have mostly used the closet for storage and clothes that are not worn often like dress shirts for DS or dresses for DD but their clothes are getting bigger and they have way too much so it is not working well to have all their clothes in the drawers.  Curious what others do.

Re: What do you hang in kids closet versus what you put in closet?

  • almost all clothes is hanging....well all the shirts and dresses.  I hang Mitch's pants as well.  For me its easier for laundry to just have all the hangers there and throw them on a hanger than fold the clothes...probably about the same...but then its easier to SEE what they can pick out for my kids vs. destroying the drawers digging to the bottom for the favorite t-shirt.

Drawers are for socks, underwear, swimsuits (summer), shorts and pajamas.  My kids put away their clothes, so this is easy for them to put away....besides the shorts, I don't make a big deal about the drawers being "perfect"....if the clothes gets tossed in...oh well.

  • I have started hanging almost all of Ls clothes.  Im trying to get rid of the dresser/changing table (yeah, I know...hes 6 and still have a changing table in his room....its long, has 3 large drawers and a cabinet so doubles a dresser) We will be buying him a new one as soon as I can sell the other.

The girls share one dresser which works for now.  I hang dresses and nicer sweaters etc.

  • Both of my boys have closet organizers in their closets, one side is shelves, and the other side has a high and low bar for hanging clothes.  I keep all their shirts hanging on the bottom bar, and all their socks/underwear/pj's/shorts in their dresser drawers.  The rest of the closet for #1 (4 yr old) is books on the bottom 3 shelves, then random storage stuff like shoes he wears infrequently or off season clothes that I dont' have in storage.  DS #2 has books, plus diapers/wipes/nebulizer and supplies/blankets.
  • I don't hang anything for any of my kids.  Not sure what that says about me.

  • I hang shirts, coats, and pants. R's closet is a decent size so I have 2 sets of those plastic 3 drawer things from Target in his closet that has shorts, underwear, PJs and socks. C has a larger chest of drawers in his room that has shorts, undies, PJs, and socks.

  • I hang everything that I can: shirts, pants, hoodies, t-shirts.

I find it is neater and tidier, easier to find clothes if they are hanging.

Of course shorts, underwear, socks, etc. are in drawers.

promised myself I'd retire when I turned gold, and yet here I am
  • in the closet: dresses, sweater, and nicer tops

  • clothes that need to be hung or that they're not ready for yet are hung up. Old clothes that they've outgrown get put into big zip loc bags at the bottom of their closet until I'm ready to move them out.  Every day clothes that get folded go in their dressers.

  • We don't have a dresser in either girl's room. There are some small drawers in the closet for things like undies, socks, undershirts, swimming suits, and pajamas. Everything else gets hung. We have a double hanger set up on one side of the closet. Right now DD1 has long pants, some skirts and shorts (that aren't part of matching outfits) and dresses on the bottom. On the top are all the matching shorts/skirts/shirts sets and all other shirts. I have to organize them by outfits so DH can figure out how to put them together. DD2's closet is set up similarly.

  • In Dylan's room, I hang a lot of her clothes...

In Alex & Taylor's they only have jackets and dresses hanging.  They share a standard size closet so there is now way I can fit more in there.  They both have a dresser with undies/socks/tights, shirts, pants and jammies.

  • We have very limited space for clothing: tiny closets and no room for dressers in their rooms.

I hang all of ds' long sleeved shirts and jackets. For dd I hang her long sleeved shirts plus all dresses and jackets.

They then have rubbermaid style drawers directly underneath their hanging clothes for pants, socks, underwear, pajamas, and short-sleeved shirts.
