I'm over maternity shirts

I am just so tired of them having such deep v-necks and having to layer everything. Why do they do that? I don't want to show off the huge boobs more than necessary.

Re: I'm over maternity shirts

  • Ugggggg! I know! I was just telling DH this on Saturday! I was like how come every single maternity shirt has to show off my boobs? Of course he said he thought they were all nice (well duh! he'd like it if I just walked around without one!) but seriously it's so dumb, what's the big deal if they make a crew neck pregnancy shirt?!

  • Maybe they think we are more comfortable with the girls showing off?  lol.

  • If there is one thing I hate is Maternity cloths!!! Ughhhhhhhh!! I practically live at a pea in a pod, and all I find if Vnecks or Crew Cuts!! I live in Miami and understand that we are no longer in summer and all the fall clothing is out but come on who in Miami can wear a long-sleeved shirt at this time without having a heatstroke!! Not to mention that i am 5ft tall and all the first fit me like dresses.. :( ugh I hate maternity cloths!! Ok vent over

  • Maybe they do the deep v so we can nurse easily in them before we get back to our regular clothes after our LOs are born.  It is annoying though.  I usually layer, but in the summer I got so hot in multiple layers that some weekends I just said eff it and let the cleavage show.

  • I know "what not to wear" and stuff always talks about having an open, exposed neck line when you're bigger/thicker in the middle, to "draw the eyes up," etc., so maybe designers think that's more flattering for pregnant women, but I totally agree- seems like everything maternity I've bought is crazy low cut!

  • Well, I have to walk my son to school every day. I bend down and give him a hug and kiss and would prefer not to flash the whole preschool. Don't get me started on dressing for church. sigh

  • I went to Gap maternity this weekend and loaded up!! They have maternity crew necks in like every color an everything was 40% off!! It was such an amazing deal. In fact I'm goin to be bummed when the baby is here bc my maternity wardrobe is now way cuter than my normal one! I would check them out though!

  • I haven't had this problem. I have crews, v's that aren't deep ones, and only one of my dressy tops have a v. The other hit at my collar bone. Sorry you're having clothing woes. Sad
  • So sorry to hear you're dealing with this :( I have found a few crew necks that really work, and a few v-necks that are also fine. Then there are a couple that require a tank top. Hope you can find some too!

  • I was telling hubby about this not too long ago! I just want a normal shirt that covers the bump. I don't need to expose my cleavage.

  • I hate maternity clothing in general. It could be that mine are from my first pregnancy 6 years ago and my style has changed since then.  But, even when I attempt to buy some new items, I can never find anything that flatters me as well as it does all those beautiful maternity models. Or it doesn't fit.  I've only been in maternity clothes for maybe 7 weeks and I'm already quite over it.

  • Do you ladies have a Thyme Maternity where you are?

I was in there and bought a bunch of stuff recently and they had TONS of different styles. Lots of boat neck, crew neck, turtle neck and all different variations with no layering required.

  • I'm with you!  My boobs aren't huge, but I hate the big v-necks.  I ended up getting some Cami-Secrets (at Target or Bed Bath & Beyond).  They attach right to your bra straps and are awesome!  It was so hot I refused to wear a tank under the v-necks, and these things worked like a charm.  One pack contains an ivory, black and white insert.  Note that they won't work if your bra straps are wide - they have to be the typical width - otherwise they won't attach.  GL!

  • I'm over maternity clothes in general...I know I'll have to get some eventually but for now I got a regular skirt and cargo pants this weekend with a stretchy waist band amd regular tops in bigger sizes.  Plus regular clothing is much cheaper that maternity!

  • I have 6 of these shirts in different colors because they are thick enough that I don't have to layer (even with my favorite dark brown bra!), but also nice & breathable. They're longer to allow for the belly, and I can totally wear them after delivery.  I got them when they were on sale for $10 each.

  • I'm sorry you ladies are having so much trouble with your clothing. Sad I shopped at Thyme Maternity when I was in Canada this summer and at Motherhood here in Virginia and I have a bunch of comfy tees that aren't v-neck. I actually am loving my maternity clothes, I may not want to go back to regular stuff, lol. The only thing I am having trouble with is finding maternity jeans. I bought one pair at Motherhood that are ok, but I'm not totally loving them. They were all too clingy/tight in the leg. I hope you ladies have better luck finding stuff that fits.

  • Just got an email from Old Navy Maternity, they have a lot of non-vee, non-ridiculous patterned stuff.  Everything seems a bit sporty/casual though, so I'm not sure about at-work duds.

I think its silly when places try to follow fashion tips for bigger-midsectioned shapes (draw attention to top, loud patterns, etc) when designing maternity clothes.  I don't know about everyone else but I'm not trying to camouflage or downplay my belly. It's there!  I'm not gonna wear a crop top either though.
