Place to have 1st birthday party? Preferably N Metro

My daughter will be turning a year old a week before Thanksgiving. My husband and I rent a twin home that really just isn't big enough to host the party and most of our family lives in Alexandria. I really don't want to have it at someone else's house (for some reason that's just out of the question to me). And so my only alternative is somewhere neutral and somewhere not too expensive. And keeping in mind that it will be 99.9% adults although I still would like for her to of course enjoy herself. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

  • Many cities have community center rooms you can rent out. I have been to parties at the one in Mounds View before and they are nice. Not exactly sure where you are, so you might have to do some internet research!

  • Check out your parks in your city.  You can usually rent a park building that comes with plenty of tables, chairs, and parking for a small fee.  I live in Mounds View and we rented out the building at Random Park for $35.  It was perfect for my girls' first birthday.  Plus, I didn't have to clean my house twice!  It had a small kitchenette area.  There wasn't a stove or oven, but plenty of counter space and outlets for crockpots.  We've already decided to have it there again next year because it was so convenient and inexpensive!

  • Given your date is around Thanksgiving...  Check with some of the area hotels.  Some have their "Breakfast Room" that you can reserve for free or for a fee.  It's usually not that expensive overall...  Otherwise, many restaurants have small private rooms and for what it costs you to buy/make food, plates/silver, etc. it's actually a reasonable price option for a kid's party..

For DD's 4th (golden) Birthday we rented the pool/side room at a hotel in the area and had a party for everyone for $70 plus what we spent on food (~$300 total for 15 people)  It worked out great because everyone had a great time without anyone having to really clean up.  Was just great.
